Chapter Twelve--
"What are you doing Nicholas?" I question my boyfriend, holding a laundry basket on my hip. He's standing on a ladder, changing a light in our living room."Changing a light bulb, duh." He tells me blankly.
"Do you know how to do that honey?"
"Nope, but I'll figure it out." Nick, always wanting to figure it out himself. I roll my eyes and go to laundry room upstairs. I put in a couple loads and then go back downstairs, getting my keys to pick up my daughter from school.
"Oh, I'm taking you on a date tonight. My mom says she can watch Eliza." Nick says behind me. I hear his footsteps get closer and his arms wrap around my shoulders from behind. I kiss his hand and lean back into his chest.
"And you didn't consult me? I'm hurt." I pretend to be hurt and I make my body go limp, leaning into him. He keeps be up like I'm a piece of paper, and I stay like that for about a minute.
"You do know that Christmas Eve is tomorrow, right?" I ask him, pulling myself out of his strong arms.
"Of course I do." He kisses my lips, sweet and short.
"I'll be back baby." I tell him, winking and walking out the door.
When Eliza and I get back, my daughter runs to our two dogs, the animals bombarding her. I laugh and Nick greets me, picking me up a few inches off the ground. He catches me off guard, so I squeak in surprise.
"Nick." I scold him, and slap his bicep as he puts me down. He just smirks at me. My boyfriend pulls me in for a hug, and I bury my face in his chest.
"I love you Nicholas." I murmur into him, and wrap my arms tighter around him.
"I love you too sweetheart." He kisses the top of my head, and I feel arms wrap around my legs.
"Mommy! I'm hungry!" Eliza's small voice sounds. I look down from her father and see Eliza tugging my pants.
"Okay. Daddy will get you something to eat." Nick opens his mouth in fake shock and I skip off to the laundry room. I change a load of laundry and my daughter comes in, her shirt off.
"Eliza!" I gasp, looking to her. My little girl's shirt is full of water. She smiles and her voice is squeaky.
"Daddy got water on my shirt mommy." She pouts, crossing her arms.
"Well....let's have a talk with daddy." I pick her up, putting her at my hip and throwing her wet shirt in a hamper. I bring her to her bedroom and get a clean shirt from the dresser. I help my daughter get it on then we head down into the kitchen.
"Daddy, why did you get water on poor Eliza's shirt?" I ask my boyfriend, a hint of amusement in my tone.
"Oh, that. Yeah, I was just getting the dogs water and spilled some on her." Then I saw that her hair was a bit damp.
"She seems upset about that daddy, maybe you should apologize." I tease him and put our daughter down. He squats down by her, picking up her chin so she'll look at him.
"I'm sorry baby girl." He tells her very seriously, kissing her forehead.
"It's okay daddy." She smiles instantly and throws her arms around his neck.
"Hey! I have a surprise for you. You're going to be spending the night with grandma tonight!" Nick stands up and has a happy expression on his face.
"The whole night?" I ask him, thinking that it was just until we got back. He nods to me and mouths to me, 'just go with it'. So I do. Eliza jumps up and down, cheering. She absolutely loves Denise.
