"So, I might be sentenced to death?" Ricky asked that night.
Chris volunteered to stay inthe holding cell that night. Security has maximized all over the town.
While Misery and Ash slept, Ricky decided to ask what the prosecutor told Chris, and Chris had to tell him.
He sighed and nodded.
"She's gonna try and get you a bunch of years, anything to even avoid life or death.... But she can't make any promises," Chris said.
Ricky sighed and fumbledwith his hands as he laid back.
"Just please... Keep your promise," Ricky said. "Whatever happens, just keep Beth safe for me... I may have ran off but that doesn't mean I didn't keep her safe."
"You don't have to worry. I'll make sure Beth is safe," Chris said.
Ricky nodded.
"Can I... Ask you something?" Chris asked.
Ricky looked over. "What's up?"
"That night... On the roof," Chris asked. "Why did you kiss me?"
Ricky looked up, and blushed a bit before shrugging, sitting up.
"Heat of the moment, I guess," He said. "You were there, trying to trap me and I couldn't help but...."
Ricky started to grow a bit nervous, evading eye contact with Chris.
"You're suddenly so shy.... Yet you were so confident when we first met," Chris said, walking over to the cells.
"Well, you didn't know the real me," Ricky said as he got up and walked to the bars, where Chris stood.
"Yet you knew a lot about me," Chris said, looking down at the small serial killer, his bright blue eyes looking up at him.
Chris never had the chance to notice... How cute Ricky was...
He only remembered seeing the photos of him all bruised and injured in the medical files. How broken and numb his own father left him.
Now, he's still small, but definitely more matured and brave.
"But who doesn't know about you? Your father was the best of the best in the cop world," Ricky said. "You're just like him, too."
Chris's eyebrows scrunched.
"You're brave, you take control of the situation, and you go into the minds of the most corrupt, consider most people close to a criminal life allies instead of misfits," Ricky said. "Just like your dad, you take pity on most of us criminals, give us a second chance."
Chris had a small smile on his face as Ricky reached up and played with the buttons of his shirt.
"You and Demon had good fathers, who loved and cared for you, raised you well and strong," Ricky said. "You even have some sympathy for me. I'm not really worth anyone's time, I'm just some criminal, I deserve Old Sparky or whatever they have planned for me."
Chris smiled softly before reaching through the bars, placing his palm carefully on Ricky's cheek.
"You're not like that. You didn't kill innocents," Chris said. "You killed people who ruined lives, who have no heart, or soul. You don't deserve to die."
Ricky looked up at him, lips pursed.
"Tell me... Agent... How did you feel about that kiss?" Ricky asked, curiosity evident in his eyes.
Chris chuckled. "I can't lie to you... It sure was something special."
Ricky scrunched his eyebrows at him. "Really?"
