I was running with Alex to get cover from the rain of bullets.
"Get your ass over here Anders!" I yelled as she slid into me.
"I'm right here do you have enough amo?" I nodded and lifted the tip of my gun over the rock. I shot the first ones in sight. I continued like that for hours. When it dies down there was bodies very were. I looked to Alex to see her clutching her foot. I rushed to her side.
"What's wrong?" I ripped out a price of cloth from my pack and started to dress it. I grabbed my head set when she was ok.
"Hello? Anyone there?" I waited.
"This is base who's this?" I heard a gruff feminine voice.
"This is officer Emilee Peterson. I'm in Q4 H3 division 9. I have. Wounded comrade. I don't know if there are any others alive. We were ambushed I only have another round in my gun and two gernades. Send a chopper and rescue team." It went static for a moment.
"Stay there do not move unless needed. We are sending 2 chops and a rescue team. Stay calm." I shut it off and went back to Alex. She had her eyes closed. We were both sweating in our body armor. I moved closer and touched her hand. Her eyes shot open looking scared till she saw me.
"It's ok were ok. They'll be here soon." I assured her. She nodded and closed her eyes again. We stayed behind the rock for about an hour till we saw two choppers coming in with loaded machine guns scanning the ground. I stood up and waved. They landed and about ten got off and ran towards me. They helped Alex onto the chop but I stayed to help them look for other survivors. We found 20 others and 16 wounded. The other 76 were all died. We found the commander who was barely alive. We had to calm another chopper but we got out of there. When we got to the landing base I jumped out before it could land all the way. I walked over to the group of medics and was about to walk past them till some one grabbed my arm. I turned to see a woman a couple inches shorted in basic uniform. I looked at her tags to see she was a high ranking General.
"Are you officer Peterson?" I recognized her voice. She was the one I talked to. I nodded and faced her fully.
"Thank you. You saved them." She searched my eyes but I held up my barrier.
"All I did was call for help." I finished walking inside and went straight to the sleeping area. I walked into the room that I had when I was first here. I stripped my armor till I was in only my combat boots and pants, with my tank top on that said Coast Guard. I hung up all my padding inspecting it for any real damage to find nothing. I cleaned my guns and put the last grenades in a explosion box and put it out side the door. I sat down on my bed and looked to my pillow to see mail. I grabbed the two envelops. The first was a Halloween hard and some stamps for me to write back. The second was a letter from Lana.
5-30
                       Emilee,
Thank you for the flower and neckless. Your right I don't want to hear it. How are you holding up? Are you eating? Please tell me you haven't got your self shot. Please right soon. I miss you a lot. I don't know the time difference but please when you get the chance please call. I love you too. When I first meet you I just wanted to be with you. I do talk to Jen. It helps. I will only drink when I'm out somewhere with friends. Don't worry about me. If I have to stay Evil dear then you do to😉
                      A worried mother,
                             Lana
The letter was dated a year ago. I held the letter for a few minutes till my door busted open and in walked a man that I didn't recognize.
"The general would like to see you in her office." He saluted and left. I got up and grabbed my jacket. I still had my dog tags along with the one Lana gave me. I put my mail in my bag and walked out the door up two flights and came to her door.
Before I could knock the door opened.
"Peterson. Come on." She held her arms to the chair I front of her desk. I walked in as she shut it behind me. I stood till she sat and motioned me to sit as well.
"We are sending you home." I was shocked.
"Why have I done something?" I asked curiously. She shook her head.
"Not anything bad. You saved them. And we have got word that you haven't had any contact with the states in a year. When you first got her you were put on the from lines. You were never given all the mail that came in here." She reached in her desk drawer and pulled out a small stack of letters intwined. She set them I front of me. I leaned forward and untied the not. I flipped through them. There was many letters from my parents and family. There was also some package envelops from them. When I got to the middle there was about 15 letters alone from Lana and Jen. I set them down and rested my chin on my hand. This whole time I thought that they had forgotten me.
"When do I leave?" I asked not making eye contact.
"Tomorrow if you wish." I nodded.
"That would be nice. May I use the phone?" She nodded and led me to the phone room. There was about 30 cord phones along the walls. Most equipped. I walked over to one in the far corner. I sat down and picked it up. I dialed my moms number.
"Hello?" I woke her up.
"Mom it's Emilee."
"Oh my god! We haven't heard from you in a year what happened are you ok are you coming home?" She was now fully awake.
"Yea I'm coming home I got to make a stop first. Don't tell anyone even dad or dad."
"Yeah sure I love you." I smiled and played with the cord.
"I love you too. I have to go." I hung up and picked it up again. I was about to dial Lana but decided against it. I dialed Ginny.
"Hello?" She was awake.
"Hey Ginny." She gasped.
"Emilee. Have you called Lana? I know you didn't call me before her." My heart sank.
"I was on the front lines were my mail didn't reach me. No I haven't. I want to surprise her." She was silent for a moment.
"Ok when do you want to meet?"
The rest of the phone call was planning on how we were going to surprise her.
The next mourning some men came to my room and took my toat and a couple other things and put them on the plane. I along with a few others were leaving. Alex was one of them. We sat next to each other. I told her of my plans and she told me hers. When we landed in New York I switched planes and said goodbye to Alex her giving me her phone number. I got on the plane and road it all the way to Vancouver.
