You sent in your article first thing the next morning. Perry White seemed thrilled with the new piece, no matter how dull it was. That didn't matter to you; you were out of the danger of being fired.

You didn't see Clark as you brewed your cup of coffee in the break room, and that was fine with you. Your mind was wandering elsewhere. Even when you sat back down in your office chair and took a long drink of hot coffee, you were still dazed.

You started to proof read one of your current articles. As you were typing, a notification popped up on your laptop. You picked up your mug and took a drink as the screen loaded. The words popped up on the screen, and you gasped. It was an email from a Lex Luthor.

You nearly choked on your coffee. You set the cup down roughly, wincing as some of it splashed out and scorched your skin. Your eyes were already reading the email too quickly for you to process. You leaned in closer to the screen and started to take your time.

I hope I'm not being too overbearing and pushy when I send you this. I just want to see you again. How does tomorrow night sound?

I have attached an address for where I want to meet you.

Lex.

You bit down on your lip as you hit 'reply'. With a jumbled mind and trembling fingers, you managed to type out a reply. You were going to meet Lex at six o'clock in the evening tomorrow, and the sound of that made butterflies flutter rapidly in your stomach.

The next day, you were dressing in your second nicest dress and shoes. You were really nervous, but excitement was what you were focusing on. You hadn't gone out with a guy in years, and you were thrilled to finally be able to again.

When you reached the restaurant that Lex requested, you gave your name to the waitress. It was a high class restaurant; the dark red carpet and the glass chandeliers told you that much.

She brought you to a room in the back, one with only a single table in the center. Lex was sitting back in his chair, his smile wide across his face. Once he saw you, he stood up and made his way over.

"___, you look beautiful," he said.

"Thank you."

"Here, I'll take your coat off - wow, am I glad you came." He helped pull the coat off of your shoulders and he walked to your seat. He pulled out your chair and gestured for you to sit.

You smiled gratefully and sat, your eyes skimming the silverware in front of you. "Thanks, Lex."

"Mhm." He took his seat and sighed. "I read your article yesterday."

"You did?"

"I did, I did," he answered. "I've got to say... you made my party seem much more sophisticated than it was."

You laughed. "Oh, sorry. I mean, it was sophisticated to me. I'd never been to anything like it before. And I guess my writing is a lot more sophisticated than I am."

He raised his eyebrows. "Really?"

"Definitely. There's a reason that party was my first." You shrugged and looked down at the silverware before you. "Like, I don't even know which of these to use for what!"

Lex laughed. "To be honest, I usually only eat with different forks when I'm not alone." He leans forward and points at the fork on the far left. "You basically just have to work your way in, depending on each course."

"It's that easy?" you mumbled.

"It's that easy," he repeated.

"Huh. That's cool. You rich people have it all made."

"Not all of it," he sighed as he leaned against his chair. His eyes trailed off to the side. "Not all of it, not yet. Not yet..." he breathed. You raised your eyebrows and smiled. He turned his attention back to you and smiled. "A-Anyways, I wanted to get to know you. Tell me about yourself!"

You let out a deep breath. "You're going to be disappointed."

His eyebrows furrowed together and he tilted his hair. "Hm?"

You looked up at him and shook your head. "You mean, something other than that I'm a twenty-eight year old journalist from the Daily Planet? There's nothing, really. I like to write, I like coffee, I really like to make runs to diners at midnight." You smiled.

"I should've taken you to a diner at midnight for a date, then," Lex said with a laugh.

Your heart skipped a beat at word 'date'. "Well, how about I take you to a diner on our next date?"

"At midnight?" he asked.

"I'm free on Saturday of next week," you continued.

"Sure," he said. He blinked as the phone in his pocket started to ring. He held up a finger and said, "Excuse me for a minute." He stood up and walked to the other side of the room. You couldn't hear what he was saying, as he was mumbling quietly.

The waitress came back and poured you a fresh glass of water, as well as set a bottle of wine and two new glasses on the table. A second waitress brought the first course; a bowl of thick, green soup. You poked at it with your spoon and picked out a huge leaf of some sort. You shook your head and muttered, "Rich people."

"Sorry about that," Lex said. He pulled out his chair and took a seat. "That was my assistant, Mercy. I told her that I was busy, but I guess there's just a lot of stuff going on at work and..." He shook his head quickly and sighed, his eyes wide.

You nodded. "You need to go," you realized.

"You have to know that I don't want to," he said. "If it wasn't so important, I swear-"

You smiled. "I know. It's okay, Lex. Really." You pulled out a fresh napkin that you had stuffed in your purse the last time you had gone through a drive-thru. You took out a pen and scribbled down you cellphone number. "Here. It's my cellphone number. You can call you if you want."

He took it from you and smiled. "It seems that every chance I get to see you is always cut short."

"And we didn't even get to discuss Superman," you said.

He smacked his palm against his forehead. "Well, darn!"

You laughed and stood up. He stood up with you and helped you put your coat on. "I'll see you next Saturday?"

"Most definitely. Without any work interruptions, I hope." He grinned and smiled down at you. You blushed in his gaze and forced your eyes down. He leaned down and kissed your cheek. "It was so great to see you."

You took a deep breath and smiled. "Y-Yeah. It was great to see you, too." You waved and grabbed your purse, leaving him behind with the napkin in his hands.
