You opened your eyes to find to an annoying ringing. It was a phone, but it wasn't yours. You looked up and saw that you weren't in your apartment. You shot up quickly and looked around. Your thundering heartbeat slowed once you realized that you were just on Lex's couch. He was laying behind you, his arms holding you against his chest. Your sudden movement and the ringing made him sit up and grab his phone off of the table.
"Hello?" He paused and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Yeah. No, I didn't go back to LexCorp yesterday. No." He stopped. His hand dropped and he glared at the carpet. "Why-why? It was what?" He launched up and walked to the other side of his office. "Mhm, and what about the Kryptonite?" He finished the conversation quickly and ended the call. You watched him as he threw his phone at the wall. It hit the side of his desk and broke in a dozen pieces as it clattered against the floor.
"Lex?" you asked. His entire figure was shaking. "Lex... are you all right?"
The shaking stopped at once. "Hm?" he hummed happily. "Oh, yes, I am quite all right." He grinned and shrugged. "Just have a bit of a hangover, I suppose."
"You said... Kryptonite. Do you... do you have Kryptonite?"
"Ah... yes. Yes, my company does - did - have a supply of Kryptonite for experimental purposes." He bit his lip and nodded.
"Did?" you asked.
"Yes, well, it seems that LexCorp was broken into and destroyed last night. The Kryptonite was stolen. Not all of it, of course, but it is still more than a little disturbing to not know who has it." He looked at you and shook his head. "Oh course, I am sure we'll figure it out quickly. I already put a few of my men on the case."
"Wow," you said quietly. He nodded and rubbed his head. "And uh... I'm sorry about staying. I guess we fell asleep." You slowly moved over sat at the edge of the sofa. You rubbed the sleep out of your eyes.
"Hm, no need to apologize," he said. "In fact, I should be the one apologizing for not offering a more comfortable place for you to sleep!"
You scoffed and stretched. "No need. This sofa is more comfortable than my own bed back home, to tell you the truth."
He laughed lowly. "Are you leaving?" he mumbled. You nodded. He reached over and grabbed your waist as you slid your shoes on. "You can't stay just a little bit longer?"
"Lex, we already had an accidental sleepover," you said with a laugh.
"That we did." He tucked his hair behind his ears.
"And you obviously have a lot going on."
He opened his mouth to answer with, "Yes, well-" But he was silenced as there was a knock on the door so loud that it made you jump.
"Mr. Luthor, we're here to take your breakfast order," a voice said through the door.
Lex held up a finger and stood up. He rushed to the door and opened it. You watched him lean against the door frame as he spoke. As quickly as the man came, he left and Lex took his seat back on the sofa. You raised your eyebrows. "It seems only fitting for me to feed you before you go. Ah, at least accompany me to breakfast, dear?"
You bit your lip and looked at him. He raised his eyebrows and held his hand out. As a grin spread across your face, you took his hand. "Well, all right."
"Excellent!" He stood up and hurried you out of his office.
"Do you have your own personal chef to make you food?" you question.
"Absolutely," he answered. "I wouldn't know what to do without them."
"And you have your own person to come and wake you up?"
"Someone has to make sure that I get something done around here," he said. You laughed. As you stepped into the dining room, Lex said, "Mm! I do hope you enjoy poached eggs and-"
"Whoa," you breathed. Your eyes were wide at the sight of the buffet in front of you. An entire ham, a platter of eggs, a bowl of fresh berries, a basket of rolls, tall glasses of orange juice... it was all spread out elegantly across the glass table. "Don't tell me this is all because I'm here!"
"Ah, but I always love to flatter you, beautiful." Lex pulled a chair out at one end of the table. You took your seat and smiled. On his way to his seat at the far end of the long table, he stopped one of the servers. "Start a pot of coffee for the lady, will you?" The server nodded and Lex planted a light pat on his shoulder. "Thank you very much, sir!"
You smiled as the chefs and servers prepared your plate for you. You must've said thank you a million times before they left. Once they were gone, you saw that Lex had already started to eat. You took a sip of your orange juice.
"So," Lex said as he wiped his face with the cloth napkin in front of him. "What do you think?"
"It's a little overwhelming," you admitted. "I've never had a meal like this."
"Ah, one of the many luxuries of being rich, I suppose," he said. His smile slowly faded and he looked back down at his plate. You watched him bite into his roll and look away.
"Lex?" you asked. "Are you all right?"
"Hm?" He looked up and nodded quickly. "Yes, yes. I am wonderful. I was just thinking..."
You smiled and tore a piece off of your roll. You took a bite and chewed carefully. When you were finished, you swallowed and said, "About what?"
"Another conversation for another time," he said quickly.
"I feel like you've said something similar like that to me before," you noted. A server brought you a cup of coffee. "Thank you so much, sir."
He tilted his head to the side. "When was that, exactly?" Lex asked.
"About your work," you said. "I mean, I know what you do, but you've been busier lately, haven't you?"
"That I have," he mumbled.
"Doing what?" you continued.
"Hm. Well, I- I can't really... no, the universe is... hm. No. When... when I was-" He stopped and looked up at the ceiling. He looked frustrated with himself. "What was I saying?" he mumbled. His eyes flickered around and his tongue glided across his lips. "___, I feel like the best way to answer that would be together, at a certain place and a certain time. This is not that place, nor is it the time."
"Okay..."
"Just know that you can trust me," he said with a nod. "Just know that what I'm doing it going to change the world for the better. It's going to make sure that things like this work out. That we'll work out."
You smiled and blushed. "Well, then I don't see why I couldn't trust you."
He smiled and stood up. You watched him carefully as he made his way over to you and held out his hands. You took them. He gently pulled you to your feet. "___, I just... I... wanted... I want to let you know how much you mean to me." He looked down at his feet and sighed. "And, uh... life... life without love is... no, uh. U-Um..."
"Lex," you whispered. You smiled at him and rubbed his shoulders.
He relaxed under your touch and looked back at you. "What I'm trying to say is that you have no idea how... different I am because of... of... my father and the life I had grown to live in." He swallowed thickly. "I know that I'm not normal." You noticed that his hands were shaking. He kept talking, his voice quivering. "I just hope that I'm enough for you to want to stay."
You reached up and gently grabbed Lex's face in your hands. You cupped his cheeks and brought him down to kiss you. His hands rested on your hips as you kissed him passionately. You broke away and looked into his blue eyes. "Lex, you're more than enough for me. That's why I told you that I love you."
"Love," he breathed. His eyes kept flickering around, like he was unable to keep his attention on one thing. "An intense romantic feeling towards someone. Means to idolize, to worship, to adore..." You smiled and traced your finger over his lips. He closed his eyes and sighed against your skin. "___, I... I love you." He caught your hand and pressed a kiss to the inside of your wrist. The way he said it sounded like he had just realized it.
Like he had just realized what he was fighting for.
