"Due to recent discussion, it has been concluded that it is best to shutdown the Human to Cyborg experiment. However, due to the amount of time and money already spent on this project, it has been concluded to give a little more time. You have ten days to succeed. If you fail, any future progress shall be considered criminal and terroristic and will be punishible by death," the female voice says over the speaker.

Dr. Cha Haekyeon goes to the computer and silences the messege. He looks at his colleague, Dr. Jung Taekwoon with concern. They were so close, yet so far. He glances at the machinery. Wires were hooked up to several bodies lying on the table. One of them had caught his attention.

Taekwoon had found her lying on the side of the road. It was a hit and run case. When the authorities had checked the manditory microchip implanted in her arm at birth, it turned out she was an orphan. She had no living family, no friends, no one to take care of her. After seeing that, Taekeoon had decided she deserved another chance. He kidnapped her and brought her to the lab. He forced her heart to stop for a few hours, then restarted it again to make it compatible with the project.

The girl was eighteen. Her name had been Kaylin, no last name. She was dirty blonde, 167 cm, and underweight. She had no diseases, according to her history stored in the microchips, she had never even caught a cold. She had been internally bleeding, a problem Haekyeon had dealt with right away, before her heart had been stopped and started again.

"Taekwoon, Haekyeon, I'm sure you heard the news," their supervisor, Dr. Lee Jaehwan, says as the labs doors slide open.

"Yes sir, we did," Haekyeon answers, not looking up from his work.

As usual, Taekeoon was silently working on the other cyborgs. These were male. These boys, unlike the girl, had all died due, different reasons. The bodies had been 'donated' by hopeful families. Their names had been Lee Hongbin, Kim Wonshik, and Han Sanghyuk. Now, they were just known as Subject 1, Subject 2, and Subject 3. The girl remained Kaylin, as she was not legally permitted to be part of the experiment.

"Then, I'm sure you are also aware of my intentions regarding it?" Jaehwan asks.

"If we are not successful, we will move all the equipment to a remote location, remove our microchips, and burn down the lab," Haekyeon replies, stealing a quick glance at Taekwoon.

They had been friends ever since they were young. They had met in Taekwoon's childhood home. Haekyeon's parents had recently died, the Jung home was his foster home. They had bonded right away due to their love of robotics. Before graduating middle school, they had both been offered the opportunity to work together on a top secret project. In reality, it wasn't a choice, but they hadn't minded. They had been taken to this lab and grown up around the machinery. When they both turned nineteen they met Jaehwan, who gave then their assignment. The creation of half human, half robots.

A small whimper drew away his attention. He looks at the girl, her face is wrinkled, she is moving. The doctors exchange a look of hope, the drugs had worn off much faster than they should've. She opens her eyes as Haekyeon approaches. She cowers away from him while he fills a syringe with a stronger sleeping drug.

"Please don't," the plea is muffled by the oxygen mask on her face. He plunges it into her arm.

"Sorry princess, I have no choice," he whispers quietly as her eyes flutter shut again.

He knew neither she or the others could hear him. He looks at her, she was still underweight, but better than she had been when she was first found.

"How is this one going so far?" Jaehwan leans over Haekyeon's shoulder.

"Good, I've removed several unnecessary organs and am ready to start the process of redirecting her energy source coming from food to man-made electricity," Haekyeon replies, checking her vitals, "Stomach removal will commence at 7 tomorrow morning."

"Can you not do it tonight?" The other man asks, poking her hooked up arm.

"Sir, I would, but I believe that tonight she will need time to process the blood transfusion needed from the last few surgeries," Haekyeon explains, "In addition, the surgery will take hours. Time that could be spent working on the other bodies."

"You seem to forget, we only have ten days to make this succeed legally. Get her ready, we are doing this today," he orders.

Haekyeon sighs, "Yes sir."

Taekwoon comes up to him after Jaehwan leaves.

"Do you really think his orders are safe to follow?" He asks in his quiet voice, "Will they corrupt the progress we've made?"

"The chances are high," Haekyeon sighs, "The problem is she needs the blood for now, we haven't gotten to the point where she can afford to loose to much. If we do this now, the first thing we'll have to do is wire her heart up to her brain with the temporary electic current that will keep her alive if she does loose to much. Which, will take far longer than replacing her stomach."

He starts unhooking her, Taekwoon helps. Her eyes are moving underneath her pale lids. As he begins to wheel her to the operation room, he whispers, "Sweet dreams princess," and brushes a stray hair away from her face.

Fourteen hours later, Haekyeon collapses on his bed. The surgery had appeared to be successful, her body now ran on a generator that replaced her stomach, and hooked up to her heart and brain.

Now, if she woke up, it would be still be difficult to complete. They still had to wire in bionics to her muscles to replace her arteries and veins. Then, the two most important parts, replace her half her heart and the half of her brain that felt emotions. If she woke up then, she'd be the first success in the Human to Cyborg experiment. But, since any progress with her would be illegal, they would have to spend the next few days on the bodies of the government permitted test subjects.

Haekyeon sighs and closes his eyes. To his amazement, he drifts to sleep quickly.
