How do you start off a story about your own life? If I were any funnier, I'd start it off with some kind of pun that would immediately make you like me. If I were any smarter, I'd start it off with a quote, like how they teach you in English class. But... Me? How do I start my own story?

Oh. Well, I guess you start it off with a question.

See, I was just a normal girl before all of this. Or as normal as you could get for a dyslexic, anxiety ridden girl with no friends. I read books, I watched Netflix, and I slept. Like I said... Normal. But all of that was before the cyclopes. I mean, I love cyclopes now. (The good ones, at least.) One of my buddy's brother is a cyclopes. But my first experience with one? Completely traumatizing.

You see, my mom and I were always traveling. We never stayed in one place for too long. She never told me why, but it was just the way we lived. Going from hotel to hotel, Burger King to Wendy's, and from California to New York. Homeschooling is easy when you have a retired teacher for a mom.

Anyways, we were traveling again when we made the worst decisions of our life. (And trust me, I've made a lot of bad decisions.) We'd gotten off of the freeway onto an exit that wasn't on the GPS. But the sign said it had a rest stop. We'd been traveling for hours.

We arrived at the rest stop. It looked like any old rest stop. A small building with maps and newspapers and a couple of vending machines next to it. I looked at my mom. Her dark skin looked really good that day, with her curly brown hair and thick chocolate lips. I can remember how deep and sad her brown eyes looked... She was beautiful. She smiled at me and exited the car. I followed.

"I betcha this rest stop is haunted." She said, winking at me, as we walked to the door. I smiled.

"That'd explain why it's so barren." I stood in front of the see-through door. Looking through the glass, I saw racks of maps, newspapers and doors to the restrooms. Just a normal rest stop. But what was unusual was the fact that nobody was there - when at this time of day, it should be packed.

"Uh, I don't like this. This is the kind of buildings the dumb people in horror movies go into." I say nervously to my mom.

She laughed. "You worry too much. C'mon Thana. Open the door."

I chuckled at my stupidity and grabbed the handlebar. I tugged it open, but instead of the room I saw through the door, I was in a cave. Crystals of all colors lined the walls, lighting the room in rainbow. Looking forward, all I could see was black and darkness. It was wide and tall enough for an elephant to run free through. It smelled like wet goats. And trust me, they smell disgusting. Drops of water echoed throughout the entire cave as if the cave had invisible rain.
