Dylan Carter

I've lived in Maywood Park for as long as I can remember. I know the whole park like the back of my hand. But when I woke up this morning, something was different. There was a moving truck in front of the house across the street. I went downstairs and asked mom about it. "Mom, who's our new neighbors?" My mom stopped her reading and looked out the window. "Oh, I didn't notice that truck. If you want to find out, why don't you go and meet our new neighbors." Mom replied. I thought about it. I guess there's no harm in meeting our new neighbors. I waited for a few minutes to let them unload some stuff. Then I went out.

I slowly walked from our house to the new neighbors' house. It was a family of five. As I casually approached the family, the father saw me.

"Good morning. What can I do for you?" He asked. Somehow the father seemed intimidating yet nice.

"Uhm..." I didn't know what to say. "Well speak up kid. It's not like I'm a bad guy or anything." He laughed. "Good morning sir. I live across the street. I just thought it would be nice to come over and meet your family." I felt odd.  The father just looked at me and said, "Well then. It was nice to meet you. I'm Adrian Waters, the father of the family, you can probably tell by now." Then I told him, "Nice to meet you Mr. Waters. I'm Dylan Carter." Then I smiled. And he smiled and continued helping his family.

I liked Mr. Waters. He was cool yet firm. I headed back home thinking about school, which is a week away. I decided to call my best friend, Sean Wayward.

"Hey Sean. Can you come over?" I asked. "Sure. I'll be there in ten minutes." Then he hanged up.

I felt lonely. My older sister Cara was in college, and my mom and dad had a divorce when I was eight. So that left me and mom alone at home. It was fine. My sister would always fight with me anyways. And my dad...well, no one in my family knows where he is. And my mom, she never really bothered me.

After a while, Sean arrived. We went to my room and played Strike Force II in my room. It was our favorite FPS game. We would play it for hours.

I was sure I could hear my mom calling me. But I didn't mind because I was lost in the world of Strike Force II.
