3 years later

It's been 3 years since my dad's death. Everything has changed, and everyone has changed.

Since my dad died we were left without a chief, captain, leader, a dad. Someone had to take his place. That someone was my mom. It's been hard for her I can imagine, but also its been hard for us. Me and Louis. Once in a while I see V.I.L.A trucks drive by our gates, but they don't come in. One will carry guns and the other soldiers. Day by day I wonder where they are taking the supplies to.

29 days later

"Morning mom" I said
"Morning honey" She replied softly
"Morning Lealoni" Louis says in a sarcastic voice

I wonder if she will ever forget. Forget the day he died. I know I'll never forget.

"The trucks are coming to pick up their shipment of crops today" Mom says cutting into my thoughts.
"Okay, I'll make sure the crops are ready to go" I said back.
"Louis can you please help your sister today?" Mom says.
"Yea, I guess I could help her" He says sarcastically.

10 min later

The trucks have arrived and everyone starts to head back to their homes. What is this? Is this our tradition now. Head home when V.I.L.A comes.

"Hey you!" Soldier A says
"Yes, can I help you" I said calmly back
"We are here for the crops" he says
"Ah! Yes, we have all the orders here in the barn" I replied.

I wonder if he remembers. Remembers the death of my father. I sure would. They killed him. They killed a part of me that will never be filled again.

"Are you going to open the barn?" He said
"Ah yes! Sorry" I replied.
"As you can se-"
"See we have doubled the amount of crops" As mom interrupted me.
"Are you the leader here?" Soldier A says.
"Yes, yes I am" She replied

Do you think V.I.L.A knows what they did? They killed my father. A father who cared about this District and it's people.

"Honey, why don't you go help your brother" Mom replied.
"Are you sure mom?" I said.
"Ye-"
"How dare you question the authority of your leader!" Soldier A says cutting into mom's sentence.
"It's okay, she is second in command leader." She says in a shaking voice.
"Second in command leader?" Soldier A replies unsure.
"Yes! Yes I am" I said back.
"Okay, well I got it from here honey" Mom says trying to hint to me to get out of here.

Gosh!! Could mom be any less obvious. At least it was nice to see mom joking around for once.
