"Are you serious?" Dave scolded his dad. Small signs of embarrassment slowly made it's way up his cheeks. He turned to me, "Don't listen him, it's usually not necessary."
His father laughed warmly and gave Dave a pat on his back. "You didn't think so when you asked me for advice about-"
Before Doug could even finish his sentence Dave had already pulled me out of the dining room, mumbling something about getting food ready.
"He likes to embarrass me." Dave said, stating the obvious.
"Oh really? I didn't notice." He rolled his eyes at my smart ass remark. "I like it though. I think I'm going to ask for some humiliating stories during dinner."
I doubled over with laughter when I saw his horrified face. The look in his eyes told me I was going to be in big trouble if I did, but I couldn't care less, it would definitely be worth it.
"You'll regret it." Dave shot me a vicious look, "You will seriously regret it."
"Speaking about embarrassing moments. I doubt anything can tip your De Niro imitation." It was seriously the funniest thing ever. His face was so similar to De Niro's it was almost scary.
"Let's just get dinner ready." Dave grunted, while putting the food on plates.
"Awh Davey, don't be mad." I pouted and wrapped my arms around him from behind. Just a little sweet talking and he would be back to his normal happy self in no time.
He turned around and pecked my lips, leaving me wanting more. As always.
Yeah, yeah. Whatever." A small smile played on his lips as he nudged me to help him getting to good ready.
Dinner was amazing. The conversation flowed easily and I took an immediate liking to his parents. Of course I didn't listen to Dave and still asked his father for awkward stories to tease him with later. The look Dave shot me when I did, kind of send shivers down my spine though.
I got to know a lot more about Dave and his family and slowly but surely James started talking to me again like before. I couldn't have imagined a better way to meet his parents.
I was so nervous before, but now I felt totally comfortable around them. I was very relieved they were such nice people, because I'm not sure what kind of effect it would've had on our relationship if I didn't get along with his parents.
"I'm sure we'll see you soon again." His mother smiled and gave me a hug.
I pulled back and offered a shy smile. "I certainly hope so."
Dave pulled me back in his chest and leant his chin on the top of my head while watching them get in the car. My heart warmed at the small gesture and I leant into him.
After we waving goodbye we went inside again.
The only thing I wanted to do right now was sleep. I was awfully tired after this long week of working and unnecessary stressing about this dinner.
I let myself fall onto the soft comfortable couch and let out a big tired sigh.
Dave chuckled at the sight of me, "Tired?"
"Just a little." I lied, but at the same time I let out a big yawn. "Okay I'm exhausted." I said when I saw Dave cock up his eyebrow.
"Your parents are really nice!" I changed the subject. Before I would fall sleep I still wanted to talk to him about this evening. I sat upright and Dave sat down next to me, handing me another glass of red wine.
"Thanks" I smiled and let my head rest on his shoulder.
"I knew you'd fit in with us perfectly. My mom loves you and my father too." Dave pressed a light kiss to my forehead.
