Why

I tell her the truth. She deserved to know after what she just told me.
I tell her everything. From how my parents split up to how I was left alone for months on the streets before they came back and got me. How that is why they are so nice to me now.
She listens.
Afterwards instead of leaving like I thought she would she wraps her arms around me and squeezes me tightly.
"I'm in love with Niall" she whispers against my neck.
I nod slowly and pry her head off my shoulder.
"He loves you too." I say.
She smiles.
I cradle Sofia in my arms for what seems like hours.
When we finally come apart she tells me that she has to leave.
She gets dressed and I follow her to the door.
"Are we still friends?" I mumble quietly.
Tears well up in her eyes and I brace myself for rejection.
She shakes her head.
"No. We are closer now than ever before." she whispers.
I watch her leave and go back to.my room.
I grab my phone off my desk and read my new text messages. I see one from an unknown number and click on it. It reads:
Hey it's Phil here. Just wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime? I am a lonely person and I kinda owe you a beer or two for helping out my sis. How about Friday night? I looked at the class list so I know where you live. I'll pick you up at 8:00. See you then.
I gape at the screen. Phil one of the most popular boys in school wants to hang out. I hastily type in a reply.
Yeah, course. See you then.
I get a feint at the bottom of my stomach. No. I will not develop feelings for a boy. I did once and he rejected me harshly. I will not make myself go through that again.
I can't help it though. The fact that I know it.
I am falling for him.
I am falling for Phil.
