The next morning when I walk through the school halls I am kind of excited. I have someone to talk to. Finally. When I turn the next corner I see a group of cheerleaders wearing their uniform crowding around a girl in the middle. I hear sniffles and crying sounds. I push through the swarms of girls to find the most popular girl in school sitting on the floor crying. I know her name, it's Georgia. I never knew how pretty she was. She was sitting crossed legged on the floor. Her light blue eyes glazed over from crying. She has black tear tracks running down her face from her eyeliner. Her chocolate brown hair is in a high ponytail with her messy curls hanging down to her shoulders. She has wrapped an old cardigan over her shoulders and her cheer uniform. Her usual footwear would be either heels or wedges but she has opted for flat Nike hightops today. Her sniffles bring me back to the present.
"Do you want to get away from here?" I ask. I don't really know her but I can tell she doesn't want this amount of girls seeing her cry.
She looks up at me. Confusion covers her face but then she relaxes visibly. She nods slowly and I put my hand out for her to take. We make our way through the cheer squad holding hands resulting in strange glares directed towards me. We wander through the halls going to a disabled bathroom.
When we get inside I turn on the tap and get some paper towels. I wet the paper towels and wipe Georgia's face free from her black tear tracks. I make sure all signs of her crying are gone before I throw the paper towels away. I see that she is holding a Prada bag. I take it from her shoulder and rummage around until I find a makeup bag. I re-apply her makeup for her and stand back. She looks good as new. She smiles and says
"Who taught you about makeup? You do contour better than me!" she laughs.
I smile.
"First time actually. I just used to watch my mum alot"
She laughs again and puts her cosmetics away. She then walks me to her locker and changes out of her cardigan and fishes out a pair of Gucci heels. I sigh and so does she.
"Why do you pretend to be someone you're not? You are perfect just the way you are." I ask.
"I used to be really badly bullied for who I was, so I changed. I try to be myself but this monster of what I've become takes over me. Please help me." she says so quietly I can barely hear.
"Of course I'll help you." I nod.
A few hours later it's lunch and I am about to sit alone when Sofia and Georgia wave me over to their table. They are sitting alone chatting about boys when I come.
"So, Niall kissed you and wants to be your boyfriend and you said you had to think about it!" Georgia practically shouts.
Sofia nods sheepishly. I smile. It's good to see them happy.
I sit down beside Sofia and turn to look at her.
"Are we still good for tonight?" I ask.
I hope she says yes. I have been thinking about it all day and I can't wait to have someone to talk to again.
"Of course!" her face lights up at the mention of our rendezvous this evening.
Georgia gives a funny stare and points a manicured finger at us.
"I never thought you two would get this close. It's really adorable." she has a huge smile plastered on her face.
At the end of the day I wait for Sofia by my car. I see her walking out of the school building cradling Georgia. I rush over to see what's wrong.
"I... Was.... Trying... To... Be... Myself. So... I... Quit... Cheer...squad....and everybody.... Hates... Me..." Georgia manages through sobs.
I envelope her in a hug and lead her to my car.
"How do you usually get home?" I ask.
"I either take the bus or one of the cheer squad takes me." she says between sniffles.
"Ok, well I will take you home from now on then. Is that OK Sofia? We can still go to my place afterwards." I say
Sofia looks relieved.
"Yes thank you."
"Wait" Georgia says. "what about my brother?" she says as a tall dark haired boy about my age walks up to us.
My heart skipped a beat. I swear it did. This beauty of a man stopped right in front of me and said
"What are you doing with my sister? Hon is he bothering you? I can get rid of him if you want." he has a low husky voice that literally makes my insides melt.
"No, he is my friend Phil. He is giving me a rode home. I think he can take you too?" she looks at me for confirmation on the last part and I nod.
"Great, me and this bloke who I don't know the name of will sit in the front. You ladies sit in the back." Phil chirps.
"Oh yeah. I am Dan. I am a senior." I say holding out my hand.
"I am Phil and also a senior" Phil takes my hand and shakes it giving me a nod.
We all sit in silence until Georgia points out that we are here. We pull in to a massive mansion and say goodbye to Georgia and Phil giving Georgia my number incase she ever needs to talk.
Fifteen minutes later I am getting out of the car and leading Sofia up to my apartment. I unlock the door and sigh. This is going to be a long night of explaining.
