Halloween is one of the biggest holidays in the world. Kids go out in costumes and try and scare others, free candy, and even supernatural creatures coming out on the one day where people won't be terrified of them. All the vampires are feasting, werewolves are constantly howling at the moon (ironically it was a full moon), and you can't have Halloween without zombies. Good thing they don't bite! Or every October would be living a living Hell. Everyone, including the supernaturals, are having a blast on the one glorious night of the year, and then there's me at home playing video games until I pass out.
Ashura hates when I do that, especially on school nights. Err... Days. We kind of go to school at night. It's not the best thing in the world though. I mean yeah, it's better than day school, but seeing every single creature you can think of every single night on the weekdays ruins it.
A few knocks rang on my door to my room. "Go away!" I yelled, continuing through my video game.
"Book! Open the door right now!" a voice yelled from the other side. I already had a pretty good guess as to who it was. I sighed loudly , paused my game, and got up and opened the door. And I was right. Ashura was standing across from me. "It's about time," he mentioned.
I had known this guy my whole life, so knowing he sucked blood never bothered me. But pale skin and bright blue eyes would intimidate anyone. Did I mention he's like, six-foot-something?
"You should be outside seeing what it's like to be a vampire! You can't just stay cooped up in your room. It's bad for your health anyway," Ashura said. He's like the mother I wish I never had. And just because he was older, and taller, and stronger than me didn't mean he could boss me around. I still had authority in my house. Well, kind of considering I was living with him.
"No, yes I can, and I don't care." I quickly answered, slamming the door afterwards. I sat back down and continued my game, ignoring the banging on my door.
"Book Lincoln Jones!! Open this door now!!" Ashura screamed. I hate it when he uses my full name. Two normal names and then Book.
"Go away Ashura," I yelled. After a few minutes of the noise illuminating from the other side, it stopped. Ha! I guess Ashura got tired of it. 'Bout time. Not too long later, my door swings open and next thing I know, I was pinned to my bed from Ashura. "H-How did you--"
"I have a key to your room," he grinned. Damn it. Of course he did! Why didn't I think that?
"Why do you want me out the house so badly?" I asked. Ashura let go of my arms and sat next to me on my bed. I sat up, crossing my legs.
"You should be with your fellow vampires. Everyone's worried about you," He smiled slightly. I looked down and sighed.
"I just...I don't belong with you guys. I don't have abilities like any of you, so I feel like I stand out," I said. I guess today was as good as any to tell Ashura the truth. He's probably disappointed that I keep doubting my vampire abilities. He grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers.
"Why do you keep doubting yourself Book? You're just as much as a vampire as any of us are," he said, trying to lift up my spirits. I shook my head.
"No, I'm not. I'll only be half of what you guys are," I stated. Ashura's expression looked as if he was angry yet worried about me. He let go of my hand and stood up.
"You never use to be like this when we were little," he commented. "I wish that Book were here right now." Ashura left my room, closing the door behind him. I just sat on my bed, pondering how I could apologize to him. I didn't know that he would be upset about that so much. But then again, what do I even know?
I decided to forget about what happened for the time being. I picked up my controller and clicked Start Game. I chose the profile I wanted and started playing one of the levels.
After about an hour of video games, I laid in my bed, staring at the ceiling. Maybe I am just doubting myself way too much. I mean, I do have the potential to be just like a full blood vampire. But since I'm half human, I constantly put myself down about it. I sighed loudly and covered my face with my hands. I should go talk to Ashura about this. Sitting up, I grab my phone and dial his number. It rang for about a minute before he finally picked up.
"What do you need?" he said bluntly. I frowned slightly but it's best not to get an attitude with him.
"Hey um... I thought about what you said earlier a-and..." I hesitated. How should I explain it? Gosh this is more difficult than what I thought.
"I got it," his tone seemed more lively now. Thank goodness! "I'll be there shortly," he said, soon hanging up on me.
I laid back on my bed , a wide smile on my face. I'm just happy Ashura isn't upset about what happened. I looked over at the clock. 10:03 P.M. It felt much later than ten o'clock at night. My phone vibrated and almost immediately I picked it up to see who it was. Surprisingly it was Ashura. I giggled a little at the message he sent.
