Lydia and Zoe were best friends, despite the two year age gap. They'd grown up together, been friends since Lydia was three. They managed to survive fifteen long years together, despite the ups and downs they've had. Fights, tears, sometimes blood. They've had serious fights over the years, because they've been friends so long, but they've only had a few, and they'd only last a day or two. The pair were basically joined at the waist. 

Zoe had this younger brother, who was a year older than Lydia. His name was Joe and when he was younger, about eight or nine, he used to bug the two girls as much as he could, constantly picking on Lydia. And she hated him for it. The teasing lasted up until Lydia was thirteen. He started to notice how things changed about her, and started to notice cute things she'd do, that he'd never noticed before. Things such as how her eyes would crinkle when she'd laugh, and how whenever she'd mess up a lyric, her face would flush bright red. Because of this, he stopped teasing her about everything.

It was about this age where Lydia started noticing how Joe stopped teasing her about her lisp, and about how short she was. She also started noticing small things about him too. The blue of his eyes, and how he'd snort when he'd laugh. It took Lydia over a year to realise and admit to herself that  she had a crush on her best friends brother. It took Joe only a month to realise and admit to himself that he had a crush on his sisters best friend. 

Lydia's now eighteen and no one except her sister know that she's had a crush on her best friends brother for four years. She's too scared to tell Zoe, afraid of what her reaction will be. Whether she'll react good or bad doesn't matter, because she still feels like she's betraying Zoe, four years later. Although, she's had boyfriends over the years, none of them lasted very long, and none of them helped to get rid of the feelings for Joe.

Joe's only told his best mate, Caspar. He's tried time and time again to try tell Lydia how he feels, but every time he's gone to say something, he's freaked out and just made it awkward. He's thought about telling Zoe, but he still remembers the time, when Joe was twelve, and Zoe had threatened him. 'Don't you dare steal my best friend. Don't catch feelings for her. She's my friend, not yours.' This was a few years before Joe properly started liking girls, so at the time he didn't understand what she meant. But when he finally figured out what she meant, he tried his hardest to stop the feelings from attacking him, but the more he tried to push them out, the worse they became. She was his first crush, and one of the only ones he's had. He too, has had relationships over the years, but none of them were serious. His longest one lasted only three months. And no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get over Lydia.
