It's almost 12:30, which means I need to leave for work soon and by work I mean plaster a fake smile on my face, stand behind a cash register, listen to constant chit-chat , maneuver around a crowded hot kitchen, and clean all the bathrooms and tables. The best part? All for minimum wage. I hope you're sensing the sarcasm because I want to be anywhere, but this hell hole. I'd probably rather be stuck in that elevator with Luke again. Yes, it's that bad at work here. Hopefully I don't run into him again on the elevator.

I'm relieved when I step into the elevator alone. I push the "L" button and the doors close to descend to the lobby.

Ding

Lobby

The doors open slowly and I step out to make my way through the lobby. Out of the corner of my eye I see a group of boys chatting amongst themselves, and one of them or...two of them? Is that Luke? Shit. I quickly hide my face and quicken my pace to avoid eye contact.

"Hey! I hear him shout. He doesn't even remember my name, of course. "Lyla?!" He yelled unsure.

I ignore him and walk straight to my car. That was a close one. I shake that off and drive to my sorry excuse for a job. I'm immediately greeted by the blast of air coming through the door, it's always pretty crowded at this time because of lunch hour. A lot of people come here for their lunch breaks, so I get the shift with the busiest hours. Wonderful.

. . . . . .

While I'm busy wiping some tables down, I take a glance out of one of the windows to the indoor playground of the resteraunt. There are some guys, or should I say boys, running through the tubes and down the slides.

"Oi! Daniel! Get the fuck off me!"

"Suck me off!"

And they're using profanities in a supposed to be child friendly environment. I stop what I'm doing so I can confront the three boys. When I walk past the door an irritated Mother pushes past me, dragging along her child.

"Excuse me!" I shout. They don't hear me. "Hey!" I try shouting again, but once again they fail to bring their attention to me. Instead, I walk over to the light switch and turn it off. Almost immediately, I hear someone slip and fall.

"Fuck!" The person yells. I turn the light back on and walk back to them. Now all eyes are on me.

"What was that for?" The guy, I believe his name is Daniel, asks rubbing where he probably hit his head.

"You 3..." I said pointing to the three of them "...Are causing trouble. As you can see this playground is supposed to be for kids, I would let you stay because all you are acting like some, but since this is specifically for ages 3 to 9 I'm gonna have to ask you to leave." I say sternly.

"Aw come on don't be such a kill joy!" One of them says.

"Lets just go, Beau."

"Shut up, James."

"I'm asking you nicely now, please get out." I say calmly. Beau rolls his eyes and gets up and walks away slowly. The other two follow him out. They had accents too, wait. What if they're with- nah, that can't be. My shift is halfway over, but now I need to take over the cash register.

About 25 customers later, I'm already switched to the monotone lets-hurry-this-up cashier. I'm addressed by another customer who's patiently waiting for me to take their order. As I stuff the cash into the register, I greet without looking up "Hi, welcome to McDonalds. What woul-"

When I look up there he is. My eyes widen and for some reason I'm shocked, did he takes his piercings out?

"Are you ok?" He asks casually.

"What would you like to order?" I say finishing off my sentence.

"Umm, 4 double cheesburger, 5 buckets of the large fries, 5 McFlurry's, 1 20 piece chicken nu-" I scoff in the middle of his order and try to cover it up with a cough. Why is he ordering so much food, holy crap.

He scrunches his eyebrows at me. "I'm sorry, is there something wrong?"

"No, no, no. I'm sorry. Carry on." His eyes are still focused on me.

"Do I know you?" He asks.

I scoff again. Louder this time. "You're kidding, right?"

He shakes his head slowly. I roll my eyes and reply, "The elevator..." I try to hint at him.

"Yeah, I got nothing."

I shake my head, "Just finish off your order."

He finishes listing off his order and pays me the money. How does he remember me earlier, but then forget me now? Whatever, I really don't care. My shift is over and I finally get to go home. I walk out the door and make a right to get to my car.

"Oi! It's you again!" A familiar voice yells from behind me.

Great.
