Chapter 15: Cheesy Guppy

The next day while you were setting up the table at the night's venue Scooter walked up to you and said, "By special request of your boyfriend, you are being relieved from duty for the rest of today." "W-w-what?" you say, looking at Scooter confusedly. "I have no clue what's going on, at least, not 100%, but I agreed to it, so go have fun." he answers you, smiling and gesturing over his shoulder. You look over in that direction and see Travis standing there with his arms wide open and grinning from ear to ear. You wave good bye to Scooter and jog over to Travis. He picks you up in his arms, laughing and then, after he sets you down, takes your hand and walks you out of the venue. 

"So...where're we going?" you ask him curiously, leaning into his side. "If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, now would it?" he answered, smiling as he looked down at you. "But Uncle Scaarrr." you say, thinking of the scene from Lion King. Travis looked down at you and chuckled while shaking his head. He kissed the top of your head and kept walking, saying, "You'll see when we get there." "Sooo we're going to the wateringhole, where we'll do a crazy, spontaneous musical dance number to get rid of Zazu and then we're going to an elephant graveyard?" "Exactly." he answered, and you both continued down the street laughing. 

"And, here we are." Travis announced, bringing you to a stop in front of a diner. He pulled open the door and let you in and you looked around and realized that he had brought you to an old 50's style diner, checkerboard tiles, red booths, and milkshake bar and all. "Sooo, this morning I was thinking about our picnic that we had back in April, and I was like 'I want to do another cheesy date.' And then I found out that this place existed and I thought, 'ok, cool, so now I've just got to get her out of work and we can do this.' And that's what I did." he explained rapidly. You hug him tightly and then run over to the bar and sit down there. Travis follows behind you and takes the seat next to you. The elderly lady who probably owned the place and seemed to be the only waitress walked over from the table she had just taken food to and said, "What can I get you two?" Travis quickly answered, "Two cheeseburgers with fries and one large chocolate malt." She smiled after she finished writing down the order and said, "I'll get two straws for that." Then, before walking away, she paused and whispered to you, "You've got a good man there." You blush and look down at your lap as she walks away.

You and Travis talked until your food came and you think you see Charles and Alli come in too, but they went into one of the open booths and sat down there, which you didn't mind since you and Travis hadn't really gotten any 'just us' dates all tour. You were dipping a fry in ketchup when Travis said, "Hey *your name*..." causing you to look over towards him, and when you did that he quickly took the cherry out of the milkshake and dabbed the whipped cream that was on the bottom of it on your nose. You gave him a shocked look and stick a finger into the whipped cream and dab his nose too. "Excuse me miss." he said jokingly and you gently pecked his lips before you both wiped the whipped cream from each other's noses. 

You finished your food and the milkshake and walked out the door after Travis paid. He turned to the left, continuing in the 'away from the venue' direction. You both pause by Alli and Charles' booth and start making faces, they were looking away and vlogging, so they didn't notice. You both run off before they do notice, leaving it to be noticed when they looked back at the video later. You slow down and then Travis grabs your hand, yelling, "Come on!" So you went back to running to wherever he was taking you. He came to a stop infront of a little mini golf course. "I said I wanted to have a cheesy date." Travis said when he saw the expression on your face. "I know." you answered with a laugh, pulling him inside the office. Travis pays the guy at the desk for a round of golf and you each grab a club and a ball and head out to the first hole. 

The first four holes Travis did the cheesy "put your arms around her and help her golf" thing, but after you spotted one of the river mini golf cheats, and used it and the ball went right into the hole, it got competitive. After the 18 holes had been played through it was determined that you had won, 62 points to 67, so kinda close, though Travis was saying that he let you win, insisting that the five point difference had been due to him being there the first four holes and then you using the river on the fifth hole, on top of him helping you. You laughed at him as you returned the golf clubs to the office and then started heading back to the venue. 

About halfway there, Travis stopped and turned to you and said, "Hey, stay right here and I'll be right back." "OK?" you say, questioningly, but he just kissed your cheek and said "Right back" and ran across the street. While you waited, Jack, Jaime, and Alex walked up. "Hey there, *your name*" Jack said, smiling, "Where's your boyfriend at?" "He just ran across the street after telling me to stay here." you answer him, "Look, here he comes now." Travis was carrying two cones of soft serve ice cream, and when he got close enough, you said "Gotta bring the cheesy date to an end with ice cream?" "Of course!" Travis said, smiling, then added, "Hey guys." They waved, and then left the two of you, saying they'll see you at the venue and Alex and Jack winked. Travis shook his head at them and you looked down at the ground. So you both continued to the venue, eating your ice cream cones and holding hands.

Later, about an hour before their set, you were sitting in the green room with everyone. During a lull in the conversation, Travis slowly reached for your face. He gently placed his hand against your cheeks...and then he squished them together so you were making a fishy face. "Repeat after me," he said, trying not to laugh, "Say 'I'm a guppy.'" You gave him a look and then said the line, "Guppies don't smile." he instructed next. "Guppies don't smile." you repeat. "But I do!" Trying not to laugh at the game, you repeated the line. "Now smile!!" he said excitedly. You did so, and Travis started laughing, and so did Charles, who had his camera out. You tried to shoot him daggers, but you ended up laughing too. "I love you!" Travis yelled and gave you a quick kiss. "Love you too." you said, laughing at him.

After the show you were both sitting in the back lounge of the bus on your own, just cuddling. Travis had grabbed a movie to watch back there, but hadn't started it yet, so it had just been sitting at the menu for the past five minutes. "Today has been really fun." you say, leaning into Travis' arm more. "Yeah." he said, smiling contentedly. You were both quiet for a minute before he said, "We should do something like that more often...or at the least just getting lunch. Like something where it's just us." "Yeah, since tour can get crazy and stuff." you say. "Yeah, I know." he said. You both sat quiet for  a couple more minutes before you moved up and kissed his jawline and said "Love you." "I love you too." he answered, smiling and kissing the top of your head and then resting his head on top of yours and finally starting the movie. You don't remember ever seeing the end.
