Chapter 8: Kiss

            -----Mike’s POV-----

            ~6 weeks later~

            Ruby stopped staying here a couple weeks ago. She came over every day for a while but lately she seems to avoid us. She seems down whenever we have class together and looks beat. Tony hasn’t even been able to get through to her lately. It’s almost lunch and we’re going to talk to her and see if she wants to spend the weekend over again. Hopefully she says yes. *ding ding*

            I scoped out the cafeteria and saw Ruby and Jaime sitting and Tony with his hands on her shoulder holding her down. Vic swooped in and I was last.

            “What’s been going on with you lately hun?” Vic asked.

            “Nothing. Just been busy lately. That’s all,” She said not even glancing up.

            “Bull shit. You know you can tell us. Come on Ruby spill. I mean it.” I told her. Her phone rang.

            “One sec.” She answered; “Yes? What? Now? What about Steph? Okay I understand. Yea, I got it.” She hung up and stood. “Sorry guys I got to go. Catch ya later, kay?” She smiled a pale smile and left. We all sighed.

            “What do we do? She’s hiding something.” Tony said.

            “Thanks Captain Obvious.” I shot at him. I looked up and he looked back at me with pain in his eyes. Shit. “Sorry Tone, I didn’t mean it. I’m just worried.” I ruffled his hair and he smiled again. “So what do we do?”

            “I’m going to her house after school to talk to her mom. I already spoke to her over the phone. She said I was welcome to bring you guys. You up for it? We all nodded and agreed to meet each other after school at the auditorium.

            I was first to the auditorium and decided to light up a cigarette. Who gives a fuck if a teacher shows up? I’m faster than any fat ass “educational staff” here. I got half way through it when it was snatched out of my hand and stomped out. “WHAT THE FU-“ a pair of lips cut me off. I looked down to see a smiling Turtle looking up at me. His smile faded and he gave me a pouty face. “What’d I do baby?”

            “You know I hate when you do that. Not only is it bad for your health but you could get in trouble.”

            “Since when do I care about getting in trouble?” I said cockily.

            “Well maybe you don’t but if you get suspended I’m gonna be left alone in Science AND have to bring you your work. That’s too much effort.” He retorted a bit snobby.

            “You punk!” I tackled him to the ground and we started wrestling.

            “Are we interrupting?” Jaime asked leaning on Vic.

            “Not at all!” I jumped up pulling Tone with me. He was so perfect. He fixed his hair and threw his snapback on his head smiling widely.

            “Let’s go then!” We all piled in Jaime’s car today and headed to Ruby’s. After a few minutes of driving we arrived and knocked on the door. Her step-dad answered and let us in.

            We were all in the kitchen talking when her mom finally explained what was going on.

            “We’re moving.” We all froze.

            “Ru’s leaving?!” Tony was the first to speak.

            “Well that’s just it. She’s not. She said she refuses to leave again. This is why she’s been off so much. She’s been working a few jobs to get enough to start at an apartment. She’ll be on her own and I don’t know how I feel about it. But she refuses to come. I’ll let her try this “independence” thing out I guess.” She paused staring at her tea; “Can you watch over her? I know it’s a lot to ask but she trust you guys. As do I. I know it’s a lot to ask but I worry.” She looked as if she was going to cry.

            “Of course.” We all said in unison, almost as if on command. We all smiled at each other.

            We pulled into our driveway only to see Ruby sitting on the front porch with her bag. We all jumped out of the car since it’s the first time she’s showed up in weeks.

            “Hey sexy where ya been” Jaime said sitting next to her. She looked up at all of us and gave a slight smile.

            “Hey guys. I wanted to say sorry. Things have been hectic at home and I heard my mom told you about things. I’m sorry you were dragged into it and I’m sorry for how I’ve been acting. Could you ever find it in your loving, sweet, caring, beautiful hearts to forgive me?” she asked with a sly smile.

            “NEVER!” Tony screamed over dramatically putting his hand on his chest and the other to his forehead; “You broke my heart too much! I could never bear to be with you again!”

            “Tony, baby, please?!” She got on one knee and grabbed his hand; “Baby I’ll never hurt you again. Please baby cakes?”

            “Baby cakes?” They both died laughing and he tackled her to the grass. “Bitch don’t ever leave me again.”

            “Never ever!” She squeezed him in a hug and we all jumped on them. There was a fit of laughter before we all went inside. We got inside and all sat together on the couch. I realized Vic was unusually quiet and looked over. Ruby and Jaime were fighting over movies with Tony and he was just staring at her, like she was the only thing there. The only thing in this room.

            “Hey guys.” Ruby asked. She had sprawled all over the floor looking up at us.

            “Yes my dear?” Vic answered. She smiled and looked more toward him.

            “Can I pwetty pwetty pwease sweep over?” She asked as innocently as possible.

            “We thought you’d never ask.” We all smiled brightly and waited for the movie to start.[

            “Hey wait a minute. What’d you put in?” She asked.

            “Nightmare On Elm Street” Jaime and Tony smiled mischievously.

“COME THE FUCK ON! I SAID LION KING!”  She pouted.

“Just come here.” Vic said opening his arms. She pouted but got up and laid her head on his lap. You could see her blushing and she watched the movie.

---Lily’s POV---

I was finally back where I belong. With my boys. Being in Vic’s arms felt amazing. I’ve come to realize these past few weeks that I like Vic. Tony was sitting in front of Mike leaning back on him and Jaime was in front of me while I played with his hair. This was right. This was what I needed.

“Excuse me” Vic said. I looked up and he looked at me apologetically;”Sorry. I need some fresh air.” He finished.

“Oh, sorry. I’ll go with you.” I got up and we both walked to the back patio. We sat on the steps and talked. We hadn’t realized it had already been forty-five minutes until I started shivering. He gave me his jacket and we leaned into each other. I looked into his beautiful chocolate eyes and started to daze off.

“Can I kiss you?” I realized what just happened and snapped back into focus.

“Wh-what?” I asked, blushing like a tomato.

“I want to kiss you.” He repeated leaning closer. I couldn’t find the words to say and just stared at him. He began to lean closer and I didn’t move. I closed my eyes as our lips collided. Sparks flew and I felt something I’d never felt before. He pulled apart and looked down at me. Without saying anything we walked back inside and sat down for the rest of the movie. As I started to doze off all I could think about was the kiss. I drifted to sleep with a smile on my face. My first kiss.
