Chapter 15: Consequence

----Mike’s POV---

We got Lilly home and in her room before our parents would notice anything. I figured it was best to talk to her personally before making her uncomfortable. I laid her in Vic’s bed and he grabbed some clothes out of the closet.

“I’ll get her some water for when she’s up. You get her changed.” He just nodded and I walked out. I ran my fingers through my hair as I filled a cup with tap water from the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and sighed. I raised my fist to punch the mirror. I was just so frustrated. As I threw my fist at it a hand grabbed my arm. Tony.

“I know, it’s hard, but she’d be so upset if she knew you hurt yourself because of her.” I lowered my fist and he closed the door. He leaned up and kissed me. When he did it was like everything melted away. It was soft, sweet, and greatly needed. I grabbed his hands and pinned them to the door. The kiss deepened and I could feel him tensing up. I kissed down his neck and lightly bit it. My hands were going under his shirt before I realized it. Just as things were heating up there was a knock on the door.

“Hey guys, Vic says she’s stirring in her sleep. She looks like she’s in pain.” Jaime walked in.

“Have Vic give her some of that medicine our mom would give us. He’ll know which one. It should help.” He went to tell Vic and I grabbed Tony’s hand and the water.

Throughout the night we took shifts watching over her to make sure she’d be alright. When our parents came to check on us we explained what happened and they said we should take her to get checked when she wakes up. Jaime went home in the morning to take Haley out to breakfast and get homework done for when we get back to school. Tony on the other hand was passed out on my chest and wouldn’t budge. I kissed his nose and he scrunched his face up.

“Wake up babe, you promised you’re Gram you’d go out to lunch if you were back today.”

“But it’s so comfy here.” He whined.

“I know but you promised. And your Gram is one old lady I don’t want to piss off, besides my mom.”

“Fine.” He reluctantly got up. He was ready and out the door twenty minutes later after giving Ruby a kiss on the cheek.

“Well, looks like it’s just us now big bro.”

“Yeah.” He was still looking at Ruby. Didn’t even give me a glance.

Then she started to stir. After a few seconds of that her eyes began to open! Thank god. She sat up and looked around confused. Vic started to explain to her everything that happened although it didn’t seem to register.

“What?” She asked, her voice a bit off.

We decided it would be best to just go straight to the hospital then try to figure out what was going on alone. When we got there Dr. Shon was in, which was the doctor we spoke to before. He ran a few test and after hours of waiting he came out with a marker board and eraser.

“What’s that for?” Vic asked as he handed it to Lilly.

“It’s so she can still communicate with us.” He wrote some things on a piece of paper and showed them to Lil. She wrote back and gave him a slight smile. “Long story short, the events you explained to me have had a temporary traumatic effect. Had she been taking her medicine it wouldn’t be so severe. It’s temporary hearing loss. If she gets back on her medicine it should fade in a matter of days.

“She can’t hear us? At all?” Vic grabbed her hand and her eyes looked sad.

“I’m sorry but no, not right now.”

We left the hospital to go back home. She began taking her medicine again and it started to work, or so we thought.

A couple weeks went by and her hearing hadn’t come back. No matter what we tried or how many doctors’ appointments we went to. It got to the point where she would just cry at night. We didn’t notice until the day we saw her peeking in on our practice session. Not being able to hear our songs or Vic’s voice seemed to break her. She stopped eating and wouldn’t go to school with us. She’d already get picked on here and there but it had gotten worse. Eventually we had to give in and she went to a rehabilitation center. We visited her everyday and spent hours together. She seemed to be feeling better but it was still hard. As long as things stayed this way she could recover. But then we realized it couldn’t. Graduation came and we all walked down the aisle together. Our parents all threw one big party to celebrate and she finally showed progress in her rehab.

Finally the day came when we had to tell her, tell her things were going to change, and become more complicated. Time to tell her we were going on tour. I don’t know how she’s going to take it, Vic is crushed and excited at the same time. None of us know how to face her.

            ---Lilly’s POV----

“What?!” I yelled as best I could.

“We’re going on tour. Look, I know it’s going to be hard but we can do it! You won’t be here much longer and we can skype and call. We can text everyday too! It’s a big break for us! Is it okay?”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Now that I could hear again, but I wanted to surprise them. What can I do now? I can’t just make them deal with my problems and stay. So I did what I do best, I smiled at them and wrote on the board.  “Congratulations! I’m so proud of you guys!”

In the end I never told them about my hearing and we all hugged goodbye. They’re leaving first thing next week. So I decided I’d work by myself to fix things.

I left the rehabilitation center and gathered my things while the boys were at practice. I left a note to tell them good luck and thank you for everything. Since then I’ve moved into Philadelphia Pennsylvania and started working at an art store. During my free time I get to use the scrap canvases and throw aways to make some projects. It’s a sweet deal. Just wish it was all in a better area. It’s been a couple months since then. The guys were pissed as hell that I just left at first, but I had to. Lately the text stop coming and the calls rarely happen. I guess they’re busy but it still hurts. I’ll be okay though, as long as I know they’re doing okay that’s all that matters to me.
