Back in the castle, I let out a large sigh. My tutor was going on about my kingdoms relations with others, nothing I hadn't heard before.
I played my outing over and over again in my head. The town would have been a great adventure in its own. But I did have one adventure, and an eventful one at that.
My powers had surfaced, and instead of taking me to my father to figure out the next step, I had been seated in front of my tutor, of all people.
"Princess?" He said, cutting through my thoughts. "Have you been listening?"
"I beg your pardon, Sir, but I am not feeling well. I wish to be left alone so I can rest." I lied.
His brow rose, and he gathered up his materials. "Of course, my princess. Shall I call on one of the hand maids to tend to you?"
"That won't be necessary, Sir. Thank you for your concern."
He bowed and left my chamber.
Father was most likely busy, and I dared not disturb him if it was important. I had to know more about the flower that had given me this ability, and what exactly I could potentially be capable of doing.
I left my chamber and went to the royal library. Here, we have texts from all over, not just my kingdom, but from others as well. I went to the small section that holds works from the kingdom of Philite. It was a very sad assortment, only covering two shelves. I traced a finger over their spines, reading them as I went. I took several off the shelves and seated myself at a table. I would spend the next two hours reading about the history culture, and customs of Philite. Then I found a chapter about the dispute between our two countries. The book was biased, of course, as the author was a Philitian, but I read it nonetheless.
From his perspective, my people had stolen their sacred flower. They had discovered it decades ago, and were astounded by its uniqueness and beauty. They treated it as an omen, signifying that they would prosper. When they discovered it to be missing, the entire kingdom was rattled. Their good omen had vanished, which could only be interpreted as bad. They searched for days, then weeks. A little after a month passed before they heard word of the Queen in the neighboring kingdom who had miraculously been healed before delivering her daughter. Furious, the people called for war. The king, keeping a level head, regarded the two kingdoms history of peace and friendship. The two kings met in a neutral palace, but no one knows what occurred there. It is assumed that they came to some sort of agreement, as the two have not declared war, but an uneasy feeling has settled over the two peoples.
I lifted my eyes from the pages and scanned the room. All these books, and none told me how much the other side had hurt after we used the Casablanca Lily.
I put the book back on its shelf, and moved towards the door. I was now aware of how little I truly knew about the rift between us, and all that I did know was here in these books. If I was going to know more, I would have to go to the source.
I was going to Philite.
