Chapter 8 [Nicholas]
I must admit, Scarlet came across as an interesting person. I mean, how many girls do you meet that wander around a new area by themselves after running away from home? It was simply unheard of.
"Your majesty," My head guard, Liam, said. "We should head back."
"Or do you want to follow your new girlfriend?" Tobi, the most recent recruit and my oldest friend, joked.
"Tobi." Liam scolded. "You do not speak to the Prince that way. You are his guard now."
"Sorry, your majesty." Tobi said quietly.
"Don't worry about it, my friend." I told him with a smile. "But, yeah, let's head back." I climbed back on my horse and urged it back into my kingdom.
"Liam, why don't you scout ahead. Secure a path for me." I suggested.
"A wise thought, my Prince. I will return to you in a few minutes." Liam said, bowing his head and urging his horse into a trot.
"What's up?" Tobi asked, pulling up next to me.
"I needed to talk to you; about her." I said, dropping my voice. "What do you think the chances of her coming back are?"
Tobi considered this. "Honestly, Prince Nicholas, I can't answer that. She told you that she ran away from home, and that a pretty good scare she had with those men."
I nodded. "Yes, but I told her there would a guard that would escort her through the city and to the safety of the palace."
My friend shrugged. "Like I said before, your majesty, that's not something I can foretell. She might return, and she might night. It's all up to her."
I looked at the reins sitting in my lap. "You're right." An idea suddenly popped into my head. "Tobi, when they ask for a guard to stand at the entrance, will you please volunteer? I think she would feel more comfortable if she's seen you with me."
He bowed his head. "Of course." I smiled just as Liam reappeared.
"You are clear, my Prince." He said.
"Thank you." I said, speaking to both of them.
As the three of us rode back to the city, I couldn't forget Scarlets beautiful face. Her eyes were glistening with brilliance, and her smile was white as the pearls in my sisters necklace. She was breath taking. I wanted to see her again. As soon as possible.
