Chapter 2

The next morning, I awoke to the warm sun pouring through my windows.

"Good morning, your highness." Marcie said as I sat up. "The king is waiting for you in the dining hall, so I figured you should wake up."

I laughed. "That was a smart thought." From my closest, Linda and Polly walked out carrying my red, long-sleeve gown that had gold colored cloth around the neck line, cuffs, and hem, along the matching heels.

"We thought that you would like to wear this today- seeing as it is your birthday." Linda said.

I climbed out of my king-sized bed and met them half way. "Yes, that would be great. Thank you." They helped me put it on and made sure the gold belt was positioned right, having the long part hang down off of my waist.

As I left the room, I noticed the flowers in my vase were beginning to wilt. "Marcie," I called.

She appeared at my side in seconds. "What is it, your highness?" She asked.

"These lilies are wilting." I informed her.

"I apologize, ma'am. I was going to replace them today."

I shook my head. "I wish to do that."

"Your highness?" She asked, confused.

I put a smile on. "Don't worry. Just have my red cloak ready for me when I finish breakfast."

She nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

Pleased, I headed out for the dining hall. When I arrived, my father was discussing something with my head guard, Logan. I couldn't tell what though because they stopped talking almost immediately after I walked in.

"Good morning." I said as I walked to my seat. A butler came over and pushed in my seat for me as I sat down. "Father, I wish to discuss something with you." I told him.

"I will leave then. If you'll excuse me." Logan said.

"Wait, I feel as though you should stay for this." I said.

"What is it, Scarlet?" My father asked.

"Father, I wish to leave Perdania and gather some lilies that grow in the fields." I told him.

My father looked at me. "For what purpose?"

"For one the flowers in my room are beginning to wilt. And I haven't left the kingdom since my last birthday." I explained.

My father took a deep breath and turned to Logan. "What do you think, my friend?"

Logan studied me for a moment before nodding. "I think it would be a nice change of pace for the Princess."

My father clapped his hands together. "Good! Then make the preparations. She will leave after breakfast."

Logan bowed. "As you wish." He said and left us.

I couldn't help but smile; I was leaving the palace grounds. This was a rare occasion, and I got it on this, the most important day of my life.
