*Mikeys POV*
I got up from the couch in Ashley's RV to go get my water from my bunk that I shared with Val. I got my water and picked it up. When I picked it up, something fell onto the ground. I crouched down and grasped what fell in my hands. As soon as I saw what it
was, sadness filled inside of me. A clear thingy, and a bag of white powder.
"Oh Val, what have you done?"I said. I got up and went to where she was.
"Val?"I asked softly.
"That's me!"She said with a laugh. I held up the bag and tube looking thing as her smile dropped. She started pacing around the room. I put my hand on her shoulder to calm her down.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!"That was the first time I ever saw her scream. She dropped to the ground and started hyperventilating. Then, I couldn't hear her breathing.
"ASHLEY!"I called, she would know, right? I looked over at Val and saw her face started to get red as Ashley came in the room. Her eyes widened and she slid next to Val.
"Mikey go make her coffee. NOW!"I ran to go make coffee as I saw Ashley take out a box and take out 3 pills. Val's eyes widened and she screamed.
I rushed in the room with her coffee as Ashley dropped the pills into the coffee.
"Look, Val, it's coffee! The way you like it! Have some."She said with worry in her voice. Valentina shook her head no and her eyes started shutting.
"Oh God honey, breathe!"Valentina's mouth opened but no breathe came out.
"Val, have some coffee goddamnit!"She shook her head meekly. Ashley tipped Valentina's head and poured coffee in her mouth. Frank came up to me and put a hand on my back as I watched in horror. Ashley took the coffee once she finished it, and Valentina spluttered up coffee on Ashley's shirt and gasped for air. Ashley crawled next to her as Val cuddled into Ashley. I saw Valentina's shoulders shake as Ashley stroked her hair.
"You're okay, shh, it's alright."My eyes were as wide as saucers as Ashley shooed us away with her hand.
"What just happened?"I said, sitting down at the table.
"What?"Gee asked.
"Val just, I don't even know what happened. "
"Panic attack."Frank said.
"How do you know?"
"Ashley told me that Valentina used to get them a lot. Back when..."He trailed off.
"Back when what?!"
"I don't remember!"He said. I could tell he was telling the truth so I nodded. After a few minutes of silence, Ashley came out with tear stain cheeks and a damp shirt. Her face was solemn. She sat next to Frank who wrapped an arm around her.
"I want answers."She nodded.
"What the fuck happened?"
"She had a panic attack, I thought it stopped last year but I guess not, she gets them occasionally."
"Why?"She hesitated.
"What happened before she had the attack?"I put the cocaine and the tube on the table. Ashley stared at it. Frank held her hand as I was silently hoping for Valentina to come and tell me she's okay.
"She's an addict Mikey, she's so different in school because she's always high! It's the drugs, she can't help it."Ashley said, her voice cracking.
"It's tearing her apart!"Tears threatened to spill but I held them back.
"How long?"
"What?"
"How long has she been doing it?"
"Since she was 13."
"She's 19!!"Ashley nodded, crying.
"Where is she now?"
"Couch. She's asleep. Thinks you hate her guts."I nodded and got up, walking to the couch. I kneeled in front of her and twirled a strand of hair in my fingers.
"Oh Val, why? You know I love you, and I would never hate you for that. It's bad but I can help you get over it."
"I don't want to get over it."She said in a groggy voice. My head shot up at her. I cupped her cheek and kissed her chastely.
"Do you know how bad it is?"She nodded.
"Is there anything else you do?"She nodded. She sat up and I sat next to her. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her like there was no tomorrow. I felt my shirt getting damp and hugged her tighter.
"I've gotcha. It's alright."
"Mikey I-"I pulled back and her face was red.
"Ashley!"I called. Ashley came into the room and pulled out a gray bottle and took out a few pills. Val's eyes widened and she clutched onto my shirt.
"NO!"
"Honey, please! It's only going to help!"
"No!"Val said sobbing. Ashley took a step closer as Valentina slapped her. Ashley gasped and dropped the gray bottle. Ashley shoved the pills in her mouth with water. Valentina swallowed, and looked up into Ashley's eyes.
"I.....I t-trusted you....Ash.....why?" Ashley's face turned to sorrow and hugged her.
"I only want to help."She said before letting go. I looked at Val and she was already asleep. Ashley looked at me.
"May I have some time with her alone?"
"Of course."I said, walking away.
*Ashleys POV*
Mikey left the room and I sobbed. I hugged Val and cried. I don't know how long I cried for. I mumbled apologies to her over and over again until I felt her arms wrap back around me.
"Why?"She asked.
"I wanted to help, honey you know I
Only want the best for you, your my best friend!"
"But you know...you know how I hate the-the pills."
"I know but I had to."Val looked at my face and sat up straight.
"Ash who did this?! Was it Frank?! I'll kill him!"She said, gesturing to the hand mark on my cheek from earlier.
"I don't wanna tell you. Plus I'm alright so-"
"No. Tell me."
"Y.....You."Her face softened and she hugged me.
"Oh Ash, I'm so sorry...I need to make it up to you."
"No, it's alright. Let's just rest right now."
"Okay."Val said as I pillowed my head on her chest.
"You almost scared me to death."
"Sorry Ash."
"It's alright."I yawned as Val wrapped her arms around me and soon fell asleep.
