When You Least Expect It

Amnesia

Katy's POV:
I open my eyes and a young boy was by my side. He asks me if I'm ok. He knows my name. Do I know him. All I can say is " who are you?" I don't recognize him. "You don't know who I am?" He asks me I shake my head no. "I'm sorry am I suppose to know who you are?" His eyes look glossed over from where I can see his face. He looks like he is about to start crying. I feel really bad for this boy but I just can't remember! I sit up a little in the bed. "What's your name?" He looks at the ground then back at me he smiles a little "my name is Kyle." I smile back it feels like the right thing to do. Just then his face turns from a smile to a really rushed kind of look. He takes out what I guess is his phone, "excuse me for a second I have to make an important phone call." I nod my head "go right ahead I'm going to take a nap." He leaves the room and it's so quiet. As I lay there starring at the ceiling. My eye lids get heavier and heavier. Soon I fall asleep and the thought of Kyle somehow looking familiar yet. I can't place my finger on where I know him from. Is out of my mind for now.

Kyle's POV:
She's awake which is the great news, but doesn't know who I am which is the bad news. As we are in the room I am upset she doesn't know who I am, and I feel like I'm about to cry. I try to push the tears back I don't want to scare her. Have her wake up not knowing who the person next to her is, and then he ends up crying. That doesn't sound right. When she asks me what's my name. I smile and feel good in side at least I didn't scare her. "My name is Kyle." She smile back and I feel happier. Then I remember I should probably call our parents! "Excuse me for a second I have to make an important phone call."  I don't really hear what she said next was to busy trying to get out of the room to contact our parents. All I really heard was her little snores. When I get out of the room and close the door the phone is already ringing. I takes 3 rings for them to answer.
             Phone convo. starts
Kyle: "Mom are you by dad?"
Mom: "Yes I am sweetheart why do you ask?"
Kyle: "Can you just put the phone on speaker phone it's really important!"
Mom: "Sure sweetie ( puts phone on speaker phone) go right ahead sweetheart tells us what you need to say."
Dad: "What is it son?"
Kyle: "Katy woke up!"
Mom & Dad: "What! When did she... How!"
Kyle: "I don't know how but she just woke up today about 30 minutes ago, but there is one thing that we-."
Dad: "What's wrong with Katy?"
Kyle: "She has amnesia she can't remember me but you guys should come down see if she remembers you guys."
Dad: "We will be there in about 20 minutes!"
            Phone convo. ends

I go back into her room. She fell asleep and she looks so peaceful. I walk back out and quietly close the door. I go find a nurse to talk to about Katy. I walk down the hall and there is a nurse at the desk. I walk up to the desk "excuse me ma' am, but may I speak to you it's about my sister Katy she is a patient here." She looks up at me and smiles "sure young man what is her last name?" "It's Smith, Katy Smith." She looks back down at her computer and and searches the for the file. "Ah here it is Katy Smith in a coma don't know if she will come out of it. I'm so sorry young boy about your sister." "That's the thing she came out of the coma, but she has amnesia or at least I think she does and she  is taking a nap now." "Oh dearie that is wonderful that she woke up, but I'm sorry she doesn't remember you. When she wakes up just buzz us and we will come and do some testing. We might not be able to make her remember you but when can tell you how long the memory loss might be that is if it is amnesia." I nod of my appreciation and walk back to her room when I get there my parents and little sister are just getting there. We walk in together. I close the door behind us. "The nurse said when she wakes up they will do some test to see if it really is amnesia and how long it will last." "Great that is great now we just need to wait for her to wake up," my dad says. "Why don't we just wake her up right now?" My little sister asked my mother. "Cause Karen your sister needs a lot of rest." "But didn't she just get a whole bunch of rest, she's been resting for 3 weeks!" "That resting isn't the same kind of resting she is doing now come on we should go get something to eat." My mom takes Karen to get food. My father, me and Katy are left in the room. It's so quiet I can't handle it. My dad decides to speak up "this hit you really hard didn't it?" I look over at him. "Yea it did she is the one person I'm closes to and she doesn't even remember me!" I start to sob my father walks over and embraces me with a hug we stay like that for a while. Mom and Karen come into the room. Dad and I woke up and looked at the clock it's been 2 hours. Katy shuffles and opens her eyes. She rubs her eyes and sit up. I push the buzzer to contact the nurse. My mother goes to Katy's side and so does my dad. She looks around the room and her eyes land on mom. "Mom is that you?" "Yes sweetheart it's me are you ok?" "I'm fine but who's this?" Katy asks pointing at our dad. Our dad gasp and takes a step back with tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you!" Tears start falling down her cheeks. He steps forward again "no it's fine it just kind of took me by surprise." She still sniffling a little, but mostly stopped crying. Karen peeks her head out from behind our mother. Katy's eyes go straight to her. My hands are shaking please let Katy remember Karen. If she doesn't this will break Karen's heart. Katy smiles big "hey Karen how's my best sister in the world." Karen steps out from behind mom and gives Katy a hug. The nurse and Doctor walk in. "Hello Katy do you know where you are?" "Yes I'm at the hospital." "Do you know who these people are?" The doctor asking pointing at her family. "Well that's my mother and my sister the younger man I met today when I first woke up and the older man I do not know." As I answer these questions the doctor looks at my eyes with a flash light. He calls my parents over and talks with them very quickly.

Doctor's POV:
"She has amnesia that is for certain but why does she remember you ( mother )and the little sister but not you ( father ) and the brother?" The doctor asks the parents. "I want to take some more test tomorrow, Friday she can go home." He says goodbye to Katy and then leaves the room.

Katy's POV:
I'm laying in the hospital bed. The doctor is talking to my mother and the older man. He also seems familiar but where have I seen him. Karen and I cuddle on the bed and I hear the doctor say goodbye but before he said something about test. I look at my mom as she walks over to my left side. "Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day get some good rest." My mom tells me and kisses my forehead. "Your not going anywhere are you?" "No sweetheart I'm staying right here now get some rest. I close my eyes and soon my breathing becomes even and I'm fast asleep.
