4 Types of Blood Circulation

1. *Pulmonary Circulation

2. *Systemic Circulation

3. Coronary Circulation ( Not Important )

4. Portal Circulation ( Not Important )

Pulmonary Circulation

Deoxygenated blood from Right Ventricle leaves via the Pulmonary Valve

Pulmonary Artery to the Lungs

v

In the Lungs, gas exchange occurs

v

Oxygenated blood leaves the Lungs via Pulmonary Vein

v

Left Atrium of the Heart

Systemic Circulation

Oxgenated blood from Left Atrium leaves via Mitral Valve towards Left Ventricle

v

Oxegenated blood leaves Left Ventricle via the Aortic valve

v

Aorta

v

Pumps blood to ALL parts of the body

v

Deoxygenated blood goes back to the Heart via Superior Vena Cava and Inferior Vena Cava

v

Right Atrium

Coronary Circulation

- The heart is supplied with arterial blood by the right and left coronary arteries

- These arteries are the 1st branches from the aorta immediately distal to the aortic valve.

Aorta

Aorta

1. Ascending Aorta

> Right & Left Coronary Artery

2. Aortic Arch

> Left common carotid

- To head and neck

> Left subclavian artery

- To left arm

> Right subclavian artery

- Right common carotid

3. Descending Aorta

> Thoracic Aorta & Abdominal Aorta

Portal Circulation [ Liver ]

- Carry deoxygenated blood and digested nutrients from abdominal organs to the liver
