Tina's POV:
I keep having this dream. I don't think if it as much, but then why would it keep reoccuring? It's the moment when me and Leo first met. Most everybody at school was mean and racist to me. But I didn't do anything. I didn't snap back, because that was probably what most of them wanted. It would only get worse from there.
I told myself that it didn't matter. There's nothing wrong with me. But I guess it mattered enough to make me cry somedays after school. Then I got the call from my parents saying that my older brother died in a fire accident. I lost it. My host mom tried to calm me down, but I cried that entire weekend. Then I had to go to school on Monday. Same routine. Go to classes, hear people whisper about you, go to lunch, hear them sing about you, more classes, then go home. I couldn't bear to do more when it got to lunch. I went to the janitor's closet, made sure no one saw me, and cried. I guess making sure no one saw me was pointless.
Five minutes later, I heard a knock at the door.
"Umm, hello?"
Don't answer Tina. It will just get worse if you do.
"Hello?" *Knock *Knock *Knock
Still not answering.
"I saw you walk in here. Tina, right?"
Still not answering.
"I'm Leo. Leo McBride.... I'm in your english and history class."
He opened the door and walked in. I was sitting on the floor with my face burried in my knees. I slowly lifted my head, tried to see him through my teary eyes. Leo stood in front of me. He had black hair to his shoulders, blue eyes, and fair skin. He walked and knelt down next to me.
"Are you ok?"
I shook my head.
"................No."
I wrapped my arms around him and refused to let go. He understood and slowly wrapped his arms around me. We stayed in that closet for the rest of that day. That whole time I told him what has happened to me. He listened to every single word I said. He paid attention to me. This was the first time anyone here in America was nice to me (besides my host mom). By the time we walked out, I had gained a friend, a good friend. Things got better from that point on.
I groggily woke up from my dream from a strange noise that came outside. But as I sit up in my bed, my throat burns and I immediatly go into a coughing fit. It's like the walls of my throat suddenly lost all it moisture and is now cracking like the ground during a drought. There's a cup of water on my bed side. I grab and drink it, only to spit it out. I'm coughing too hard to swallow.
I stumble on the floor and feel myself ready to cough something up. I cough on my hand and I see blood. Then I just start coughing up more and more of it. I can't talk, obviously. But I need someone's attention!
I start banging on the walls as hard as I can, hoping someone will notice. My head starts spinning because I can't take whole breaths. Finally someone comes in and immediatly helps me. I didn't recognize the man but he has a shot in his hand. He looked like he knew what he was doing, so I don't struggle against him. He injects the needle in the side of my neck and almost instantaniously, I stop coughing. I take deep breaths and finally calm down.
"Are you ok?" he asks, "That was close." I open my mouth to answer, but only a scream comes out. A guy with demon wings tackles him and starts punching him in the face.
"NO! I WON"T LET YOU HURT TINA!" he screams.
He turns around and I scream at the fact that the attacker is Leo.
"Run Tina! Get out here! Get the others a-" His face and body freeze on that sentence. Someone covers my mouth and nose with a towel. The last thing I hear before I pass out is bone cracking that isn't mine.
