I never liked wearing suit before, and I never will. Sadly, out of all the places where Agent X could have chosen to meet with his minions, he chose the Viennese Opera Ball. Sergeant John has instructed both Cassie and me to attend the ball in hopes that we can find Agent X. The meeting time was at 5 in the evening, but I overslept. I had only forty-five minutes to prepare myself for the ball. It could be regarded as the second worst thing that has happened in my life, with getting dragged into this crazy situation being the first. I put on my suit and tie. It belonged to my father once, and now it belongs to me.
After I felt prepared, I got into my Mustang and drove quickly to Cassie's house. I've learnt from Cassie of Sergeant John's anger, and I do not intend to experience it. I arrived at her house, five minutes to 5, which was somehow unbelievably incredible. I rang her doorbell twice, and before I got a chance to ring the bell for a third time, the door sprung open. There are words to describe what she was wearing, but my mind couldn't access that information. I was simply blown away. Her black dress was darker than the night sky, and it made her eyes stand out. "Y-you look beautiful C-cass," why am I stuttering, I'm making myself look like a buffoon right now "You're not so bad yourself," she said, with a smile. I gave her a nervous smile in return and guided her to the car. The ride to the ball was filled with silence. The only thing any of us could hear was the roaring V8 engine under the hood of my Mustang.
We arrived at the ball an hour before it started. The entrance had just begun to get crowded with a lot of masked men and women here to attend such a 'lovely' occasion, and when I say 'lovely' I mean that everyone is wearing formal attires. By the time we entered the hall all eyes went straight at us. Then I realized, it wasn't me they were staring at, it was Cassie. She has become the center of attention. Why am I not surprised? With a dress like that and a face as pretty as hers, it's impossible to keep your eyes away. We both tried to blend in with the crowd but it seems to be an impossible task. The ball began, and we started to search the hall for Agent X and his minions. It was going to be hard because I have never seen the man before, and so does Cassie. And to make things harder, this is a masquerade ball, so everyone had to wear masks. Like the famous quote by Bill Gates, "Life is not fair, get used to it." I think years would fly by until I could finally 'get used' to life's unfairness.
After searching for an hour, Cassie decided that she was going to get some drinks. I must admit, I was getting thirsty, so I told her that I would get the drinks instead. "I'll be back soon, I am not going to miss my dance with you," The search for drinks felt longer than the search for Agent X. It's been only a minute and I still have no clue where the drinks were served at. I asked a waiter where the drinks were served and he pointed me to a table at the corner. I was a few steps away when suddenly a man grabbed me by the neck and covered my nose and mouth with a napkin. Chloroform! I tried to hold my breath but it was inevitable. Within seconds, I was out.
