CHAPTER 3
DAN'S POV (!!!!!!)
I couldn't move. I could hear beeping, feel a gown and sheets on my skin, feel someone holding my hand, here someone's light snoring next to me, but I couldn't move. I was awake. I wanted to open my eyes, but I just couldn't. I managed a small twitch of my finger, which caused whoever was holding my hand to wake up.
"Dan." I heard him say. "Dan, I know you're in there, wake up, please wake up." I felt his hands stroke my face lightly. "Dan. Please." I heard him begin to cry. No. He was so kind. I didn't want him to cry. I needed to wake up so the kind man would stop crying. I tried to open my eyes, and my eyelids actually fluttered a bit. Then, with an enormous effort, I managed to open my eyes.
"Dan!" The man said. He looked about my age, a little older than me, maybe. He had jet black hair with long fring in front, and beautiful blue eyes that were shining with tears.
"Don't cry." I croaked.
"Its just..." he started. "Its just so good to see your eyes again."
Again? I thought. I've never seen this man before.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. "I don't know who you are." This caused his eyes to well up with tears, some spilling onto his cheeks. He let go of my hand and ran out of the room. I sighed. I felt like there was something missing, something in my mind, but I couldn't quite place it.--------------------------------------------------
PHIL'S POV
"I don't know who you are."
Dan's words echoed around my brain as I went to find a nurse. Those six words were everything I feared. I ran into one of my favourite nurses who, over the weeks, I had come to think of as a friend. Her name was Steph.
"Hiya, Phil!" She smiled at me, but her smile turned into a look of concern when she saw the tears and the look of distress that probably coloured my face. "Phil, whats going on?"
"He's awake." I whispered horesly, not even trying to stop the tears streaming down my face.
"Isn't that a good thing, love?" She asked me.
"Yes, it is." I sighed. "He doesn't remember me, Steph. He doesn't know who I am." She took a step towards me and embraced me in a warm hug.
"He will. You will just have to help him remember. You'll fall in love with him all over again." She said, pulling away.
"I'm not-" I started, used to denying my feelings. She inturuppted me.
"Yes, you are." She smiled. "Now go to him. Introduce yourself to him. Start the journey right."
I nodded, and went back to Dan's room.

DAN'S POV
I stared at the ceiling, trying to piece things together. All I could come up with was that I was in a hospital. I had absolutly no recolloection of why. My thoughts were inturuptted by a knock in my door.
"Come in." I croaked. My voice was so horse…A tall, older man in a white lab coat came in.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Gregory." He introduced himself.
"I'm Daniel..." I trailed off, thinking he must already know who I am.
"Nice to meet you, Daniel." He smiled supportivley. "Would you mind trying to answer a few questions?"
"Not at all." I said, shaking my head.
"Okay. First things first, what is your full name?"
"Daniel James Howell."
"Date of birth?"
"Tenth of June, 1991."
"Very good." He praised. I didn't understand why he was praising me for knowing these things. They were just things people should know.
"Okay. Lets try this. How did you get here?"
"I don't know..." I trailed off, embarassed.
"Do you know how long you've been here?"
"No."
"Do you know where you are?"
"In a hospital, right?"
"Right." He said as he scribbled something on his clip board. As he was writing, there was another knock on the door, and the kind man from before came in. His eyes were still filled with unshed tears.
"Oh, Dr. Gregory. If you're not done, I can come back later..." He said politley.
"No, Phil. I'm glad you're here. I need to talk to you." Dr. Gregory looked over at me before saying, "In private, if you don't mind."
The kind man, Phil, nodded, and they went into the hallway. I could hear there muffled voices, but I couldn't make out the words.

PHIL'S POV
I walked out of Dan's hospital room with Dr. Gregory. The older man looked solemn.
"He has a good amount of memory loss. He know his name, and his birth date, but he doesn't remember why he's here. And judging from your current state, I'm guessing he doesn't know who you are?"
I shook my head. "I was about to go introduce myself to him."
"Honestly, its good that he remembers as much as he does. And, its good that he has you to help him with the rest. He can go home in a few days, as long as you stay with him when he does. He'll need a bit more rest first." Dr. Gregory gave me a supportive grin. I smiled weakly.
"Is that all? I'd really like to go meet my best friend." My voice wavered slightly, but I didn't break down. Dr. Gregory nodded, and walked away. I rushed back into Dan's room, but he'd already fallen asleep again. It was different this time thiogh. I knew Dan was back.

The next day
DAN'S POV
I sat up, and got quite a head rush. I supposed I must've been lying down a long while. Just as my head cleared, my door opened. It was the kind man, Phil. He looked sad. He walked over to my bed, and sat in the chair next to it.
"Hello." He said, somewhat gloomily.
"Hi!" I responded brightly, trying to cheer him up.
"Er, I'm not good with introductions... I'm Phil. Phil Lester."
"Nice to meet you, Phil." I extended my hand for a shake, but he just looked at it. "I'm Dan. Dan Howell."
"Erm, I know... we're kind of... best friends..."
