Chapter 27

Date: March 13th

Time: 11:06 a.m.

Location: San Francisco, California

I breathe in the salty air and stretch like a cat would when it wakes up. Adjusting my sunglasses so sun wouldn’t blind me I turn over to tan my back. The others were always saying I was too pale so I figured I would sun bathe today.

Currently we were staying in some apartment planning our next move. It wasn’t exactly five star but it would do and help us keep that low profile we have been wanting. The apartment was in the shady parts of San Francisco and the alleys reeked of something that you would be better off not knowing. The bricks were red and chipped and I wouldn’t be surprised if there had been a murder or two down there. Iris said it added to the appeal.

I hear a couple guys whistle and I flip them off. I was becoming more like Iris in a sense of growing a backbone and not being afraid all the time. It was nice not worrying all the time, about friends, family, Lockstar, that M dude.

“Hey chica.” I lift my head up slightly drowsy to see Fran lay on a towel next to me.

I didn’t come to the beach alone that would look slightly pathetic. The guys were out surfing and Iris was probably trying to swim out to meet a shark or two while I stayed on the beach. It was so nice to be in a place that was already warm and sunny in the early months.

I give Fran a sloppy smile before resting my head back down on my folded arms. This was the life, knots were still in my neck but I could just breathe a little better now.

As for our plan?

Well when we weren’t relaxing or acting like normal people for once we were doing our criminal duties. I would try and keep up with the ever changing profile updates Lockstar had for their buyers trying to figure out when a sale would be but everything was locked tight and trying to find out the information could back fire on us. As in they find someone who isn’t supposed to be looking and can find them.

I was also trying to find another assassin that would work for us (like I said earlier Valentin is a lost cause) and have found nothing. It was weird enough having an interview with a highly trained killer; it was even weirder when they had the twitches.

One guy had PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder, from the war he was in. Or at least he claimed to be in a war I think this guy was just nuts. Halfway through he got up screaming breaking the one light we had illuminating the room shouting about some guy named Johnny.

There was only one light for obvious reasons; we couldn’t be seen, only heard. We usually had a disclosed location, more often than not it would be an old warehouse. The room would be what you expect to see in the movies, cold, plain, and bare.

Another guy kept trying to hit on Fran, Iris and I, or at least just one of us. Instead of having all of our voices Fran made a voice modulator (the thing that changes the sound of our voices) so it sounded like there was only one man and one woman. The guy kept hitting on the woman even though he couldn’t see us. Not wanting to have more relationship drama his name was crossed off.

One was a petite girl that was again borderline insane or at least schizophrenic. She kept murmuring to herself, at one point in the interview I heard her say that she can’t kill us yet. Needless to say John knocked her out and we brought her to a psychiatric ward.
