s e v e n t e e n: car wreck(less)
History won't drag my
name through its tarnished
repute of miserable lessons,
for I am not a lecture
you will hear in a classroom,
a map to the worlds apocalypse,
a conundrum that could not
be diffused quickly. They watched my smiles become risky,
my clothes become tailored,
my lipstick stain open cups,
my mascara pool bathroom sinks,
but they will not have enough of me
to place in a museum full of art.Tangible five-foot-seven pounds
of flesh and love and life,
I do not care much for tomorrow if
I can change the course of today;
they see my black car
tinted on a highway,
but this time I am not going
to be a car wreck as I'm
slipping through red signals and
stop signs leading my own road.I have finally found
a destination without you
to lead me off a cliff,
and this time I will learn
to face the geography damned
roads with no brakes,
steering wheel clenched,
wind in my face as I press the accelerator
and finally learn to be free.
