We all stumbled into the small, bright room and took seats in different places. Lou was setting up her hair stuff on one side and Adelaide was setting up her make up. She yawned as she did so and paused to throw her hair up in a sorta sloppy bun. A hand waved in front of my face and I blinked before looking up to see Louis.
“Quit your staring!” I blushed and looked away. Louis scoffed before pulling me up. He gave Lou a ‘we’ll be right back’ sort of look and dragged me down the hall. “You want to fuck the makeup girl!” I shook my head and rolled my eyes.
“Sure,” I said, chuckling. “Whatever you say!” He crossed his arms before glaring at me. I shifted my weight to the other foot.
“I saw the way you were staring,” he said. “Either that or you like her. Spill it Horan.” We both turned our heads as Lou poked hers into the hallway before wiggling a finger at us. “This conversation isn’t over.” He clapped me on the back before walking away from me. I had to be more careful around Adelaide. I couldn’t just stare at her like some lost puppy whenever she was in the room.
I was the last to get my hair done and was sitting with the chair facing Adelaide. Zayn was with her and she was chewing the corner of her bottom lip as she worked to apply the gunk to his face. Louis cleared his throat not so secretively and I looked at him. He gave me a knowing look.
“No!” I turned to look at Lou and her mouth was wide open as she stared at where the door was. There stood Harry Styles. Fedora and all. “You are not wearing that… that thing!” Harry’s eyebrows pulled in close.
“What’s wrong with it?” Adelaide chuckled from her side of the room and waved me over. Harry sat down in the chair for Lou. Ade squeezed some lotion onto her hand and then rubbed them together before applying it to my face.
“It’s hideous! Not to mention huge!” Harry examined the hat in his hands and shrugged his shoulders.
“I like it.”
My eyes were closed but Adelaide was humming. The tune was familiar and I found myself smiling. She was humming one of our songs.
“Good song,” I mumbled. She tilted my chin in different angles before going over to her bag. I opened my eyes and watched as she pulled her bottom lip into her mouthing, thinking. No one could tell me not to stare at her right now. I could just say I’m watching. Forget about the fact that I could tell that she smelled like vanilla or that she used apple shampoo. Maybe I just happened to notice that her socks had stars on them or that I could kiss the dip of her…
“Are you excited?” she asked. I glanced up at her. We usually never talked during our little sessions.
“Excuse me?” I asked, my mouth going dry. She blushed and began swiping the brush all around my face.
“For the awards, I mean,” She bent over and I had to repeatedly tell myself not to look down her shirt.
“Oh, yeah. I guess,” she pulled out another brush, this one bigger. “I can’t wait to get home though.” She nodded and didn’t say anything else.
We were all dressed to a tee, with the exception of Harry who looked like a farmer, and were ready to hit the awards. Lou and Adelaide got out of the truck first and said their good lucks before heading into the venue. We, on the other hand, got to walk about the teal carpet. Or whatever this color is. All I knew is that if I kept my glasses on, it didn’t matter where I looked. I just had to smile and stand there all pretty like.
