-Ella’s POV-
When both Loren and Emara left, I got up and headed over to the last free person in the room, Gonzales.
“Ella!” Gonzales said kind of surprised.
I pulled up a chair and sat next to him. He had ended up pulling a chair up to the window, and had been gazing out of it before I came up. I told him what happened. He leaned forward and pulled me into a hug. I hadn’t expected the gesture, but I welcomed it all the same. I motioned for us to sit on the floor. He moved without letting me go.
After a while, I said, “Thanks…”
“For what?” he asked puzzled. He pulled away to where he could see my face. I lifted my head, for I had been lying on his shoulder.
“For just being here for me. I’m obviously new here and I guess I don’t really know you guys yet… even if you’re just hugging me… it means a lot…” I told him.
“Of course!” Gonzales said as if we had known each other for years instead of days. I smiled at him. He smiled back down at me. He hugged me to him again. I looked up at him. His silver face was beautiful, the way the moonlight made him sparkle. The way his skin sparkled made me wonder if his skin was made of metal or not. I was suddenly come over with a strong desire to touch his face. To just cup his face in my hands.
Slowly... I moved my hands up to his face.
“Hold still…” I whispered. He didn’t move. I reached up and touched my hands to his face. His skin was cold like metal but soft like skin. The silver of his skin didn’t look like the paint that people in movies put on to look silver. It looked just like skin only silver colored.
I traced my fingers over his face, just wanting to understand how he could look the way he did. His lips were a dark gray color and his eyes looked like liquid silver. I could stare at them for hours. Reluctantly I tore my gaze from his eyes, which were looking at me with a mix of curiosity and amusement. Though he hadn’t moved, his eyes were running over my face. I guessed he was studying my face as I was his.
I moved my gaze down to his chin, my fingers following. He had very definite cheekbones, and, unlike Stephano, his chin was clean of hair. My finger slid down his neck which made him jump a little. I looked up when he said, “It tickled.”
“Oh, sorry…” I dropped my hands back into my lap.
He moved his hands to hold mine, “I didn’t say you had to stop. It felt nice. Your hands are warm.”
I blushed and looked away. I let him put my hand back up to his face. His skin was cool. Eventually my hand slipped from his face, as my arms were getting tired. I laid my head back on Gonzales’s shoulder. I slipped into sleep.
I awoke sometime later in a bed. I got up and saw Gonzales was asleep by the window. I remembered, suddenly, that Barrel was supposed to meet me. I looked over at the others. None of them were awake, so I slipped out of the room and into the hall. I walked down the corridor for a while when I hear noise from up ahead. I pressed myself up against the wall because I was scared that it was a monster when Barrel popped out from around the corner.
“Barrel!” I exclaimed happily.
“Ella! I was beginning to think that you wouldn’t come.” Barrel moved toward me. I hugged him.
Barrel was slightly surprised but didn’t pull away. Instead he asked, “Is everything okay?”
“No…” I explained what happened with the car. He hugged me again, brushing my hair in comfort. “I don’t know what’s going on or if we will even be alive in the other world…”
“It’s okay now… you’re safe…” Barrel gave me a little squeeze. I felt tears slipping from my eyes. I couldn’t help it. I cried into his chest. I felt a bit guilty because of what happened between me and Gonzales, but this didn’t mean anything… did it? I didn’t pull away from Barrel but I did begin to wonder if this really meant nothing.
Suddenly, I felt this weird sensation in my mind. I felt like there was a part of my brain that had been dormant for a long time that had just woken up. I put my hands to my head and backed away from Barrel. Suddenly I could see tons and tons of Amnesia monsters crowding around me and what looked like someone else but I couldn’t tell who it was. They were all blurry. The monsters were making strange moans and screeches. Then I suddenly saw all the monsters charge at us. I screamed.
“What?” Barrel exclaimed his arms snapping out to catch me as I started to fall. So many images were flooding my mind. I guess I couldn’t take it because my whole world went black.
