disintegrate

i woke up to the sound of a voice calling my name in a gentle tone.
"sky. sky. wake up"
after several seconds, i recognized that voice to be my mothers, and my eyes fluttered open.
my grey eyes were met by my mother's soft blue ones.
she smiled at me and spoke again, "sweetheart; we've just landed. we have to get going."
i nodded, not really ready to speak after my 7 hour nap, and grabbed my light pink long champ bag that i had brought on the plane with me. i then stood up along with my mom, and started to walk down the slim airplane hallway. i was starting to feel claustrophobic, so i wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.
just before we got off of the aircraft, a flight attendant who reminded me a lot of britney spears in toxic said in a cheery voice, " thank you for flying with virgin continental. the time is now 1:25, sunday morning in london, england."
i groaned and just walked off onto the tunnel that led to the gate. i heard my mom thank the woman politely, something i would've done if i wasn't so out of it.
"looks like someone's grumpy" my mom laughed and i stuck my tongue out, causing her to laugh once again.
as soon as we entered the large airport, i was almost taken a back with what was happening around me. everything and everyone was moving around me. i mean, i guess i was used to this since i had lived in la, california, but this was something different. it was 1 am for god's sake.
i followed my mom downstairs to the baggage claim to retrieve all 5 of our luggage (what can you say we're girls), and as we traveled through the packed airport, i couldn't help but listen to the people talking around me. most of them had british accents, and honestly it was the most intriguing sound i had ever heard. of course i had heard the accent on movies and television, but never in real life.
once we got a hold of our bags, we walked out of the sliding glass doors and into the commotion outside. i almost dropped everything that I was holding because it was so cold, and my shorts and a tshirt were definitely not helping.
"i told you to bring your jacket on the plane! it's not 80 degrees like california honey!" my mom scowled at me and i scowled, still in sleep mode.
after about 5 minutes we finally hailed a cab, and hopped in.
as soon as my body hit the warm leather of the seats i breathed out in relief. at least it was warm in here. my mother gave the cab driver our address, and he informed her that it would only take about 45 minutes to get there. she nodded in approval, and before i knew it the engine sounded and we took off in to the city.
we drove through london for about 30 minutes, and let me tell you, it was like nothing i had ever seen before.
everything was just so bright and fast moving. i saw things from clubs to shops to markets; any thing you could think of.
i started to wish that we were moving here, as the city lights slowly started to fade away into blackness.
i hoped that i liked the new town that i was going to be living in for the next three years of my life. i didn't want to move. in fact my mom had to force me to get in the car to drive to the airport because i refused to go anywhere.
i mean if you were me, you wouldn't want to move either. i had a pretty good life back in California. my freshman year was probably one of the best times i had in my life. i got a boyfriend who was absolutely gorgeous and super sweet, plus i got perfect SAT scores. my friends were all so sweet and we hung out all the time.
so when i found out that we were moving, i was furious with my mother. i thought that just because she was offered a promotion and a raise, it didn't mean that she had to take it, but that was obviously selfish of me and didn't make any sense.
although if it wasn't for us having a good relationship, i probably wouldn't have let her talk me into going anywhere.
after what seemed like forever, we finally pulled into a driveway and my eyeballs nearly flipped out of my sockets at the house that was supposedly ours.
it was huge.
the exterior of the home seemed to be painted a creamy white color although it was hard to see in the dark. i could slightly make out a pool in the backyard from where i was sitting, and grinned.
i looked over to my mom to see her grinning right back at me.
"welcome home" she whispered and kissed the top of my forehead.
Maybe i would like it here.
soon enough we payed the taxi driver and headed inside our new home.
it seemed to be just as beautiful as it was outside, but i didn't really get a good look since i headed upstairs and straight into the first bedroom i saw.
i looked down to see the time on the screen of my iphone; 2:30 am.
i needed to go to sleep.
thankfully there was already a queen sized mattress set in the middle of the large room, so i walked over to it not wasting another minute.
i didn't even bother to change out of my clothes that i had been wearing all day.
i just lay down on the soft material and fell unconscious.
