disintegrate
chapter two
I woke up to the sound of rain falling faintly outside. My eyes fluttered open and were met by an unfamiliar room.
My mind clouded with confusion of where I was, but in a mere couple of seconds, I remembered that I had just moved in my new house last night.
I was in England.
I examined my room; still bare and empty. There was not a single piece of furniture on the wooden floor and the walls were a boring off-white. I made a mental reminder to go and buy some things to brighten up the place a bit as soon as possible.
I grabbed my phone that was now on the edge of the mattress I was sprawled upon just a moment ago, and checked the time.
" 1:15 pm "
It was late. Usually my mom would have woken me up by 9 or 10 in the morning.
I tapped my message icon, to see if I had any unread texts. My eyes spotted the word mom in bold, along with a detailed paragraph underneath it.
I sighed, already knowing more or less what the message would say.
" morning sky. just wanted to let you know that i will be out all day since i have a very important conference to attend before work officially starts at the hospital. i left 100 dollars for you on the kitchen counter to go get clothes and furniture and just stuff for the house. ill be back home by 8 o'clock, so i'll see you soon. love you lots. mom xx"
I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding, and simply answered my mom back with a " k " before locking my phone so that the screen was nothing but black.
I guess I was used to my mom working all the time. I mean she was a doctor. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like if my mom and I could actually spend time together.
Sure; I loved my mother will all my heart, but I wasn't all that close with her. With her constantly being at meetings or being on her iPhone, we only really talked when necessary.
But, like I said, I was used to it.
I got up from my bed, causing the springs from the mattress to squeak, and made my way to my luggage.
I pulled out my small portable toothbrush and paste that I had taken with me on the plane the night before, and found the bathroom.
As I brushed my teeth, I gave myself another reminder to get an actual toothbrush since the one I was using at the moment was the size of an infant's.
Once I was done cleaning my now clean teeth, I walked out of the bathroom and back inside the confines of my room.
I unzipped my luggage once again, and pulled out a pair of gray sweats along with a thin sweater to put over the tank top I had on now, and a pair of flip flops.
I wasn't really doing anything today, so there was no need in getting all dressed up.
As soon as I was done changing, I pulled my hair up into a messy bun, grabbed my phone, and ran down the stairs.
I wasn't going to bother doing my makeup. Who was I gonna see?
My eyes came upon a silver credit card on top of the granite counter top in what I assumed was the kitchen. I took the slim piece of material in my hand and slipt it in to my phone case.
With that, I was out the door, and standing in the pouring rain.
Then it hit me.
I had no car.
