maybe if i ran fast enough i could make it.
gold lights coming from the outsides of houses came into view in the distance.
rooftops; houses.
i was almost there.
but the teens were gaining on me.
their footsteps getting louder.
more distinct.
"shit" i muttered under my heaving breath; trying to save my energy.
i could hear them all breathing; just as i was.
that's how close they were.
just a little farther now.
maybe if i went just a bit faster, i would make it.
the cold wind was zooming past me at an incredible speed; singueing my cheeks with its icy burn.
my muscles were starting to ache.
every part of me; throbbing uncontrollably.
i felt as if an 808 drum was being pounded on with such force inside me that i could feel it.
everywhere.
it was too much for my body.
my weak legs couldn't hold me up any longer.
i couldn't feel below my torso.
i couldn't feel my legs.
i couldn't go anymore.
my body lurched forward in the direction of the unwelcoming ground beneath me.
as i fell; it seemed like the world had stopped.
like every motion around me was slowed.
the only noise i could decipher was the hushed cricketing coming from the dark trees.
my once rapidly beating heart, now at a steady pace.
peace filled my body up; replacing the sensation of gravity making the sushi in my stomach gradually rise up; closer to my throat.
i felt free.
surreal.
something hard came in contact with my head.
with my mind.
something cold.
senses no longer had sense.
no longer made sense.
i could no longer hear the sweet chirping of the frail insects of the night.
the slow rate of my heart.
i felt nothing.
i thought nothing.
the only thing that seemed to be present was darkness.
black.
nothing.
