disintegrate
chapter five
i felt confusion puzzle my brain, causing my brows to deeply furrow.
where were my bags?
they had been patiently sitting on top of the marbly-type table just minutes before i bought my food.
and now, they were nowhere in sight.
that thought instantly made me think back to the teenagers once again.
the table that they had once occupied; now empty.
just like my bags.
rage coursed through my veins as i balled my hands into tight fists.
there was only one obvious answer to where my bags had gone.
those kids.
they stole my bags.
they had to.
it's not like all my newly bought items decided to grow feet and walk away.
i was beyond mad. outraged was a better way to describe how I felt at the moment.
i just spent over 100 dollars on things i needed to maintain my normal life; i mean i wouldn't last a day without brushing my teeth or having clothes that didn't consist of no sleeves and cropped tops.
it was good news that i knew that the rotten thieves had my bags.
the only problem. where had they gone.
i turned slowly around in place; making a 360 circle. they weren't here.
i guess there was nothing else to do. i wasn't going to search for them in a mall I had no idea how to get around in.
i sat down on the cool metal chair, in defeat.
i was hopeless.
helpless.
i opened up the plastic container which held my sushi roll.
although my appetite had definitely subsided, i might as well eat something.
before someone stole that too.
finishing all five of my rolls in a short ten minutes in silence, i threw out the remaining scraps, and unlocked my phone for the time.
"7:00" was printed in bold pixels.
my eyes widened. how had i had been at the mall for five hours.
'time flies when you're having fun" my conscious added in, sarcasm clear in its tone.
i almost laughed at myself, but nothing came out of my mouth. i was still too furious to think about anything other than what was stolen from me.
i made my way through the mall and back outside, looking left and right trying to find the culprits.
of course, they were nowhere to be seen.
thankfully it was no longer raining as hard as it was earlier, though there was now a slight drizzle falling from the sky.
fog surrounded the mall, making me start to feel claustrophobic, so i hurried along to the the empty road a couple feet ahead.
i walked steadily on the still damp tar, the only sound heard being my shoes hitting the ground every two seconds.
without stopping, i looked up at the sky; now almost consumed by darkness.
the only thing that shone was the pale moon above and the dim street lights, which spread apart every quarter of a mile. meaning there was only one that was visible to me at the moment.
my eyes flickered to the dark brush which enclosed the silent space. the trees seemed to be burning a whole in my skull. i felt as if they were watching me.
the way they were silent. the way everything was silent.
i brought my hands up to my mouth, and began to furiously bite at my horribly short nails.
i'd like to say i wasn't starting to get a little creeped out. but i was.
i mean who walks alone at night in the middle of an abandoned road.
oh yea; me.
i pressed my pointer finger over the lock button on my phone, wanting to check the time.
the blank screen brightened up dimly, and displayed a small red battery in the center of the lit up blackness.
"cmonn!" i yelled a little too loudly than intentioned.
with a small huff, I slipt my phone back inside of my pants pocket, and continued on.
i had been walking for about five minutes now so all i had was about ten more minutes until i reached the safe confines of my new home.
'ten more minutes of walking.
alone.
without a phone.
in the dark'
my annoying conscious added in once again.
although i knew it was just fear talking, i couldn't help but believe it.
anxiety was pulsing through my body, putting me on the edge.
my pace quickened and i wrapped my arms around my shivering shoulders, attempting to make myself feel a bit more comfortable, but failing miserably.
i was almost there; just maybe five minutes more at this point.
it felt like i had been walking forever, and my legs were starting to feel numb from the coldness in the air.
i began to let out a long lawn, but was interrupted by the sound of people laughing in the distance.
my heartbeat quickened and my body stopped moving.
i slowly turned my head so that i could see behind me.
what if there were pedophiles coming to get me. kidnappers coming to steal me.
i squinted my eyes, feeling the moisture beginning to rise in them.
focusing on the five figures in the distance until i could see them clearly.
but the moment i could see who the five people were, i immediately wished i hadn't looked.
wished i had arrived home five minutes early.
walking this way, were the teenagers i had been trying to stay away from for almost the whole day.
and clutched in each of their perfect hands, were the things that i had been trying to find for almost the whole day.
my bags.
as much i wanted to turn back around and run to the safety of my nice house as fast as my throbbing legs could take me, i found myself slowly start to place one foot in front of the other, and walk towards the teenagers.
walk torwards my bags.
i was going to get back what belonged to me.
