Chapter 8: Bittersweet
"Harry Styles has goggly eyes for mystery girl in black leather jacket."
I read it all over again. What? Goggly eyes? I'll fucking rip the head of whoever wrote this article. This is crap. Loads of crap. I've checked twitter and one of the trends is Harry's girlfriend.
Loads of pictures and comments about us. Some people were even being rude. They were saying I was using Harry for fame. That all I want is money. That I'm a whore. That I'm ugly. Hateful tweets makes me cringe. I logged out of twitter and slammed the phone to the table. Alex was startled when the phone made contact to the desk.
"Hey careful! That's my phone!" Alex snatched it. "Why are you mad?"
"Me mad? I'm beyond mad!"
"Why?"
"Why? You're asking why? They're making stories about me Alex! Am I supposed to be happy with that?" I threw my hands up in the air.
"You're overreacting Andie! Plus they don't know that it's you."
"That's the point. They don't know about me and sooner or later they're gonna find out about me. I'll be risking my family from society's judgmental minds."
"They're not gonna know about anything. Just be extra careful."
"Yeah and that means not seeing him again."
"What? No!" She glared. "He's the only decent guy that's interested in you Andie. You can't let this opportunity pass. I know that you're trying to push him away again. You can't just keep doing that Andie." I opened my mouth to speak up but she cut me.
"I know you're gonna say that you're protecting your family. You're trying to use the media as an excuse." She crossed her arms.
Wow! She really knows me so well.
"Alex, I just don't want him to get hurt. You know that."
"You've been pushing people away after what happened to Adrian."
I flinched when she mentioned his name. I haven't heard that name for almost 2 years. I could still remember what happened. The horror etched on his face during the accident. It was my fault. It was all my fault.
"I-I'm sorry Andie. I didn't mean to bring him up." Her gaze shifted to the floor. I know she didn't mean it but bringing up Adrian is never a good idea.
"It's okay Alex." I got out from my seat and placed my hand on her shoulder. She looked up and hugged me.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
***
"I'll be going now Ms. Andie." Delilah stood at the doorway. Her bag slung on her shoulders. She was ready to go.
"Okay. See you tomorrow Delilah." I smiled and waved her goodbye.
"You should be going too Ms. Andie. It's getting late." She smiled and closed the door.
It was quarter to nine already. I carefully placed all the documents back inside the folder. The silence was kind of relaxing. Something I do need.
I can't seem to forget my conversation with Alex. Everything she said was right. Ever since what happened with Adrian, I've been shutting people out. Especially those who seemed to be interested in me. I just don't want to feel that pain again. I've already lose my mother and Adrian and I think I can't handle losing someone again.
Adrian.
He still haunts me. Every memory I had with him is crashing down on me again. I was trying to forget him; to move on. Alex accidentally mentions him and I'm back to square one.
I didn't even know what happened. Next thing I know, I punched the wall. My knuckles bleed. But the pain was nothing compared what I feel right now. I'm responsible for him. I was responsible for his death. I was there. I was there when they beat him. I was just there and I didn't do anything. I was useless. I feel useless.
My phone was beeping. A text from Harry.
-Hi Andie.
-Hey.
-Have you seen the pictures?
-Yeah.
-I'm sorry. I honestly didn't know they were there :(
-It's okay. No worries.
-Where are you now?
-Still in the office.
-Wanna go have dinner with me?
-Yeah sure.
-Be there in 15.
-Okay.
Why am I accepting his invitation? I'm going mad.
I sighed. Alex's words kept ringing in my mind.
He's the only decent guy that's interested in you Andie.
She's right. All the guys that seems interested in me are the guys who wants to get in my pants. Maybe Harry is not like them.
I sat back down and stared at my glass window. The view was breathtaking especially during the night. The city lights are like stars. So beautiful.
***
After 15 minutes of just staring into space, Harry finally texted me to get down.
He was leaning to his car when I saw him. He immediately stood straight when he saw me. He flashed me a smile and I did the same.
"What happened to your hand?" His smile faded. He gave me a concerned look.
"Oh! Uhm.. It's nothing. Just punched my wall." I faked laugh. I shifted my gaze to my feet.
"Andie?" I didn't look at him.
"Andie?" This time he tilted my chin using his finger. I stared at his green eyes. It's like he's looking straight to my soul.
"Can I see it?" I didn't answer. He took that as a yes and wrapped his fingers around my arm.
He checked my knuckles and his face scrunched up when he saw the wound. And without hesitation, he kissed it. My breath hitched when his lips made contact with my skin. No one ever done that before. No one ever kissed my wounds. I can't help but smile at his sweet gesture. I was thankful that there wasn't enough light in here or he'll see me blushing.
Blushing.
This is really something new to me. He made me blush two times already today. How does he even do that?
He really is something.
End of Chapter.
