My First Publication (a cautionary duodrabble)

One afternoon a neighbour appeared with a piece of music, and asked if could I help out with the words. I put marrows in the oven to bake for a few of us, and listened to the music while the meal cooked.

As soon as I heard the piano play, words just popped into my head. When I sang them, it turned out I'd made a new tune, too, but it still worked with the music so that was ok. My words became the title and the chorus.

At this point I should be jumping up and down with glee and singing you the tune over you-tube, but why do you think I can't?

You guessed it. I simply didn't know enough about copyright. Stupidly I allowed my contribution (both music and words) to be published in the name of that hungry neighbour... so the words aren't mine anymore.

I wouldn't have thought of publishing it but now  it's been sung for decades and I am really glad of that.

I may regret letting the song go so foolishly, and I am less inclined to dine on roasted squash.  But nevertheless I'd never regret the singing of the song.

Sing your Song.
