luke hesistates, a deep and worrisome frown contorting his soft yet pain inflicted skin. luke tenses up as a car passes by, clutching onto the phone harder.

"yeah, i sort of got away." he says, swallowing down his fear afterwards. "i need somewhere to go... yeah, i have her with me."

luke lets out a breath of relief from those soft lips. i just want to wrap my arms around his neck and make up for these lost years.

"you're a life saver, louis." he thankfully says, puffing out his cheeks. "they won't find us there, will they?" there's a pause. "okay, well i'll be there soon."

luke hangs up, handing me my phone and wrapping his arms around me. he lightly laughs with relief into my hair. "we're going to be okay."

"who was that?" i ask him.

"my friend louis," he says. "i met him a while ago. he's a friend of the rabbits but he's only slightly older than us," he stares across at the field ahead of us in thought. "he always told me he would find a way out for me."

"but he's their friend?" i ask, my eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

"he fucking hates them," he shrugs. "he's always liked me better."

i smile across at him, his eyes almost twinkling in the sunlight. i swear his grey, lifeless eyes have gained back a fleck of their once vibrant blue.

"we're going to meet him in the woods a few miles away," he tells me. "and then he'll get us away as fast as he can."

i nod, unsure of what is happening. it feels like i'm suddenly being caught up in a tangled web of deciet and betrayal. but i don't mind, as long as my hand is fitted in luke's and we never let go of each other.

"is louis nice?" i ask him as he unzips the duffel bag at his feet.

"sure he is," he smiles at me as he pulls out a few items of clothing. "he'll protect you at all costs. he owes me."

my eyes go wide as soon as he pulls out a hand gun and tosses it to the grass.

"why do you have that?" i ask him with uncertainty.

"we need protection," he tells me. "they aren't playing around anymore. they want us both dead now that i've escaped."

i silently nod as luke pulls out a small case and begins to reload the gun. his quiet, worried breaths fill the air as he shoves the gun back into the duffel bag and tightens the drawstring.

"now we need to go," he says, taking my hand. "i promise we'll be okay. i won't let them go near you, i- i promise."

"i know, luke." i smile as i reassuringly squeeze his hand. "i trust you. i always have done."

he smiles at me again, his eyes regaining more of their colour. it's evident we have needed each other all along.

even though i'm running away and that involves sacrificing the sad, yet acceptable life i have built, i know that everything will be okay since i'm with luke.

we walk for a few miles until we come to the outskirts of an unfamiliar woodland.

"in here," he murmers. he holds tightly onto my hands as he ducks under a fallen tree trunk above him and pulls me along. the branches ans twigs crunch beneath our feet as we head deeper into the woods. "it's somewhere around here, i know it is."

he crouches down, still holding onto my hand, and begins to wipe away the fallen leaves on the dirt. eventually, a metallic looking trapdoor is revealed beneath the moss and the leaves.
