the rabbits laugh, most likely a twisted grin beneath those heavy rabbit heads. i don't know what to do as the blood keeps slowly pouring from me and luke quickly pulls his shirt over his head, biting onto his lip as he begins to tear at it.
his bloody hands contrasting against his pale, creamy skin make my heart sink. he manages to tear away a piece and begins to wrap it around my stomach when i hear the rabbit from behind me, slumped back in my chair.
"what would you do without luke?" he sneers, letting out a low laugh. i watch with wide eyes as he turns to kian, his arms folded. "did you enjoy that?"
kian's eyes are staring off into the distance of the circus tent. he doesn't respond, as the rabbit sighs, his eyes flickering back to me.
"you have ten seconds." he suddenly says.
we all frown, our bodies rigid as he stands up.
"ten seconds to run," the second rabbit says from behind bryana. she quickly stands up, crouching beside me and taking my hand. her eyes are glazed as she wraps her arm around my shoulder, luke assisting her. "ten seconds to run as fast as you can before we catch you and kill each of you fuckers."
my body feels weightless as i'm abruptly pulled to my feet. i limp along, the tears streaming down my face as i run for my life. kian follows behind, speeding up as the laughter of the rabbit's approach.
i cannot look kian in the eyes when he tries to push between luke and i as we run towards the side of the stage.
"quickly, through here." luke breathily says, his voice full of panic as he hauls us down a dirt track within the tent. the clashing of metal against a wall sounds again as we turn down the first corridor, our hearts beating against our ribcages.
"fuck," bryana cries out, her voice catching. she is terrified as she glances over her shoulder and begins to cry harder. "get me out of here, please."
"we will, please stay calm." luke says, his promise instantly slipping through his fingers. how can he be so sure?
at the end of the corridor, there's a vague and dull light. it's not alluring or beckoning but it screams safety to us, like it could possibly be a street light outside. the more we approach it, the more ridiculous it sounds; we are in the middle of no where. our screams will dissipitate in the bitter night's air.
"we need to hide," luke whispers with urgency, glancing over his shoulder as the terrifying and clamarous metallic crash fills us with dread. he collides his body with the wooden door, which flies open and crashes with back wall. "in here."
we all hurry inside, our eyes scanning over the almost haunting scene.
luke slams the door shut, pushing his back against the wooden door as he slides down it, his hand grasping onto the doorknob. "kian, make yourself useful." luke says with a huff, reluctant to talk to him but in need of help.
kian obliges and sits beside luke as they keep the wooden door firmly shut, allowing my eyes to consume our unusual surroundings. i soon recognise the scenery and begin to cry, feeling the tears welling and spilling onto my cheeks.
"sophia," i hear luke quietly say, before his body is pushed forward slightly and his head harshly collides with the door. the door rattles as it is pushed back and forth, harshly and with no remorse. "go and hide!" he shrieks to bryana and i, his tears staining his cheeks and lingering on his lips.
my heart is in my throat as my eyes flicker between luke and the large, oak table beside me. the tablecloth that adorns the table and the multiple pastel pink and blue tea cups with saucers make the bile rise in my throat. there is a tall, dark green hat with a yellow ribbon neatly wrapped around the rim of the hat that sits at the end of the table. and there, in the middle of the table is what really tells the entire intention.
