"Damn! Lost again!" KC muttered. She scanned the entrance door. People were starting to arrive. It was about 8pm anyway. In just another four hours her birthday would expire. Happy 26th birthday to me she thought sourly. She reloaded again Mortal M. Who would have thought that a 26 year old lady like her still enjoy kids games like a kid.
"Happy birthday KC," someone whispered in her ears. KC turned around and saw her cousin Sean. He sat beside her couch and stared at her concentrating on her new game.
"Hey! Are we game later?? It's a hot night and I want to relax." Sean Davidson asked.
"I....I'm not in the mood actually," KC paused her portable game console and scanned again the crowd. She don't feel like celebrating. How could he forget her birthday when she was born after his birthdate??
"How can we party if the celebrant wasn't there??" Sean joked. "Did your brother arrived already??"
She shook her head. KC Davidson's brother Caleb Jacobs Davidson was the current acting VP for the D&G Group. He had flown to Japan a week earlier to close a potential investor and he was coming home tonight with a good news. D&G Enterprises was a multi billion company established way back from her grandad Ian Davidson to his father. It was a family owned business turned corporation. Two families owned the controlling shares of stocks and it's not surprising that almost all of her cousins (she got a total of only five first cousins actually) were working there.
KC adjusted her gown strap again. She seldom dressed up. But she did as requested by her parents since this is a formal gathering. She looked up and saw her mom and dad talking with some new potential clients.
A hushed and everybody looked at the entrance door.
"Finally," KC breathed as she jumped from her couch seat and went to welcome her brother back. Caleb Jacobs kissed their parents cheek and went to glance shortly at the ballroom hall. KC knew he was looking for her.
"Caleb Jacobs! I missed you!," KC said as she run to her brothers waiting arms for his comforting hug.
"Little sis." He smiled warmly as he enveloped her in a bear hug and bowed down so he could kiss her cheeks. "Happy birthday. What's that text all about? Are you okay?," he asked worriedly. KC had messaged her brother this morning because she felt down. She needed someone to talk to. She needed to get this aching pain out of her chest. Sure there were secrets between her brother and her, Hell Caleb didn't even know that she, his little sister was married for crying out loud. Her brother was also hiding something from her. She knew the moment she caught him with Trixie, their cousin. There were secrets between them as siblings but their bond was strong and had weathered tough times.
"Can we talk about it later?," KC asked. She don't want to think about it now. Hell she don't know where to start. Should she tell him who the reason for her depression years back?
"KC you sound so serious I'm getting nervous. And here I thought you're about to introduce me to your boyfriend. You sounded so happy the last time I checked."
Another hushed again. Probably another big time guest. Her brother turned and he grinned.
"Hey little sis, lets talk about it later. Quit worrying and erase that frown on your face. It's your birthday. And look whose here!"
KC turned to look. "Uncle Darren. Good evening." She greeted formally. Darren Greggory. The other family who owns the major stocks. He was with his two daughters who where also part of the enterprise's head officers, Lara and Paris. KC was friends with his daughters. Paris was her former classmate during middle school while Lara was her brothers batch. KC went to kiss their cheeks as the standard greeting.
"KC, happy birthday." Darren Greggory greeted her." By the way, I brought my elusive son tonight. Caleb told me you're a fan of his works."
No fucking way.
KC stilled. This couldn't be happening. Had he found out immediately the link? The Connection?? That the D&G Enterprise was from a long line of Davidson's and Greggory's?? He didn't bother to grace his presence at his father's side this whole past years so why now? She decided to meet his eyes. He seem surprised to find her there too, but she could be wrong. She thought he still love her and she was so humiliated when he said otherwise. He despises her now. He wants to stay out of her life. He wanted revenge. He refuse to listen to her reasons. But KC refuses to lose hope. She can feel he felt something for her too, in the way he kissed her. She's never been born to become a loser. She was determined to get him back. To make him fall for her again. But she wasn't prepared to face him now especially after the way he treated her this morning......
"Mr Dylan Mitchell in the flesh. My little sis was literally a fan of yours. She worshipped you like a God's gift to gamerkind." Her brother Caleb shook hands with him.
Dylan Mitchell coughed. "Always glad to hear from a fan." He offered his hand but KC made no move to get it. Her brother tapped her lightly. "No need to be shy little sis."
KC offered hers and immediately got her hand back incase her brother became too suspicious.
Dylan chuckled. He gaze at her and smirked. He was not the Dylan that she used to know now. He had already changed.
"I'm sorry I believe I didn't catch your name?," he squinted.
"It's Karissa Cassiopeia for you." KC said hardly.
