"Sam, I can't raise this thing! I won't! I refuse." Dean raged as he paced back and forth in the motel room.
"Dean, seriously. Calm down, it's not that bad." Sam said, annoyed with his brother. Luckily, the newborn angel was asleep on the bed Dean had put him on, but Sam knew that at this rate that wouldn't last long.
"Oh, yes it is Sam. Caring for a human baby is bad enough, but a baby angel?! No way, no how! I'm a hunter! I'm supposed to kill monsters, not raise them!" Dean hadn't stopped pacing or yelling and he was going to wake up the kid if he wasn't careful. "And what's Dad going to say about this? You know he won't put up with this!"
"Then we don't tell Dad. Because Dean, we should only kill evil. Does he look evil to you?" Sam pointed to the baby, who squirmed a little bit, almost as if he was trying to be cued or something.
"That is nothing close to a monster. He is one of the most innocent things in the world. And he has been given to you, Dean. He's your responsibility now. Raise him to not become a monster. Keep him safe Dean. You have to take care of him!" Sam snapped at his older brother, using his full height to try and stare him down. He was finally starting to catch up with Dean height wise and would soon surpass him. The brothers held an angry glaring contest when the fledgling began to fuss on the bed. When someone did not immediately come to his aid, his light fussing quickly turned into loud cries."Fine. I'll take care of the darn thing. But don't expect me to like it." Dean snapped as he moved to pick up the crying infant.
"Whatever you say Dean." Sam grumbled as he rolled his eyes. Dean cradled the newborn in his arms, bouncing him gently.
"Yeah, that's right. There's nothing wrong with you so shut up already." Dean muttered under his breath so Sam wouldn't hear him.
"Didn't that angel guy give you any supplies for him before just handing over the little guy?" Sam asked as he moved towards the door and grabbed his coat.
"No. Freaking angel didn't. Literally just handed me the kid and told me to take care of him. Didn't even tell me the name." Dean groaned as he realized how unprepared he was. Sam sighed at his brother as he finished putting on his coat and grabbed the keys to the Impala.
"Well, I'm off to get some baby stuff. You figure out how to calm him down and what to call him while I'm gone." Sam instructed Dean as he walked out the door. Dean grumbled under his breath as he tried to calm the little fledgling.
It took about five minutes to get him to stop crying. Dean glanced down at him as the sobs died down to quiet sniffles.
"What's your name, little guy?" Dean questioned as he took the time to study the little angel in his arms. His eyes were met with the baby's crystal blue ones, his dark hair still all downy and soft. He was wearing a simple white onesie and was wrapped up in a white knitted blanket. The baby squirmed a little, getting his arms out of where they had been trapped against his body. Dean couldn't help but chuckle as he sat on the edge of his bed.
"Alright, note to self: do not restrain the beast." Dean murmured as he held the angel firmly in one arm and used his free hand to detangle the blanket from around him. Dean held him in one arm as he went to toss the blanket behind him but a quick flash of blue on white caught his eye. He quickly twisted the blanket around until he found the word stitched in blue at the edge of the blanket.
"Castiel?" Dean murmured in confusion and the fledgling looked up at him.
"Is that your name little guy? Castiel?" He received a blink and small sneeze in response.
"I'll take that as a yes. Well, I guess that is one problem solved." Dean tossed the blanket onto the bed behind them before frowning down at the baby.
"Now what am I supposed to do with you?"
