Dean stared down at the newborn who just stared back up at him.
"Whatever." Dean muttered before laying the infant on the bed and sitting next to him.
"Here we go." He muttered, relaxing into the bed as a football game started playing on the screen. Dean glanced at the fledgling once, but he seemed fine. Dean told himself not to worry so much about a monster's wellbeing as he began to drift off, sleep welcoming him into its embrace.Dean was very rudely awakened by a large thump and the abrupt sound of crying come from next to him. He jolted up, his hand reaching for the knife under his pillow. He looked around for a moment, trying to locate the crying before he remembered his new charge. Dean swore as he searched the bed for the baby. It took him a second to realize why Castiel was crying as he leaned over the side of the bed.
"Aw man. Dang it Cas." Dean sighed as he stood and picked up the poor fledgling from where he had fallen. Castiel had gone red in the face from screaming so hard (because there was no other way to describe that level of crying) and there was a bump starting to form on the back of his head. Dean began to bounce him gently, trying to sooth him. Dean laid one hand on the back of Castiel's neck, trying to lay his head against Dean's chest. But poor Castiel just kept screaming, tears streaming down his red face and landing on Dean's shirt.
"Dude!" Dean spun around to see Sam standing in the open doorway, plastic bags in his hands. "I told you to calm him down, not work him up even more!" Sam exclaimed in angry disbelief and he slammed the door shut behind him. The loud noise must have upset Cas even more because his screams grew louder.
"Well, you're not exactly helping the situation Sam!" Dean snapped, still trying to get the kid to shut up. Sam dropped the bags on the table and rooted through one of them before pulling or a plastic package.
"Here." Sam said, cracking it open and pulling out a pacifier. He handed it to Dean, who then tried to stick in Castiel's mouth. It took a few minutes but Cas finally calmed down enough to accept it and begin to suck.
"Finally." Dean sighed in relief before glancing over at his brother. "What else you got in those bags?" He asked, still bouncing Cas gently.
"Just some basics. Diapers, wet wipes, bottles, some formula. Stuff like that. Everything else, I left for you to get later." Sam smirked at Dean and he scowled in response.
"Oh yeah. Thanks for that Sam, thanks so much." Dean growled at him.
"Hey, he's your responsibility Dean. The angels gave him to you, not me. I'll help babysit and stuff but you're raising him." Sam shrugged, his smirk growing.
"Fine. I guess that I'm stuck with you, Cas." Dean grumbled to the infant and Sam raised an eyebrow at him.
"Cas?" Sam repeated and Dean rolled his eyes at his brother.
"Castiel. It's his name. Or at least, it's the name stitched on his blanket." Dean explained and Sam nodded slowly.
"Alright then. Whatever floats your boat."
