After preparing his coffee, I walk over and hand it to him. "You can take a seat, by the way." I say to him, reassuringly. He seems cautious to not wet my couch with his boxers, but I don't mind. It will dry.
He sits down on my couch, but not before wrapping the towel I gave him around his waist. "Thank you for the hospitality. Ash told me lots of good things about you, they're not hard to see." He declares.
I smile at him. That's sweet. Ash talks about me to him?
I suddenly find the silence between us deafening, and I decide to press play on the movie I was watching from before so the sound fills the air.
I don't know how to make conversation with him, I don't know him, I don't know what he likes and what he doesn't like. I start to feel a little uncomfortable and wonder if I should ask him to leave, but his clothes are in the dryer and I would look stupid for basically inviting him in just to kick him out five minutes later.
I hurry back into the kitchen area and I start to make myself another tea, even though I hadn't even finished my tea from earlier. I just want to be occupied.
While making my tea, Hawthe answers a phone call and I eavesdrop.
I hear him talking about his business, he's discussing when he'll be able to meet up with whoever is on the phone, for God knows what. I like not fully knowing what this job entails. I know enough, I know whatever Ash or Libby tells me, which isn't a whole lot.
As I finish making my tea, I hear a big sigh come from him. I glance over, seeing him rub his face with his hands. "Let me tell you something, Libby.'' He says, almost in a joking manner.
"What's that?'' I mumble.
"Never get into this business.'' He states before laughing, which leads me to believe he's only joking, and he knows I wouldn't even consider it.
"Wasn't really planning on it.'' I reply, chuckling quietly.
"I barely get any sleep, I'm on the road all the time, I barely even see my home because of this. It's fucking tiring.'' He explains.
I almost find it a little odd that he's saying all this to me, as we don't know each other.
"Sounds like a lot of work.'' I take a sip of my tea, walking closer to my living room, where he is.
He looks over at me and I can tell by his eyes that he's tired. They're bloodshot. Maybe it's from other reasons too, but it's not hard to tell that he hasn't slept in a while.
"I've been doing this shit since I was fifteen. I'm twenty-seven.Thirteen years of this shit.''
I look at him, finding it hard to find the right words. I don't know what to say to him. I don't know what to say to most people. I find it's hard for me to hold up conversations, I've always been this way.
"If you could do anything else, what would you do?'' I ask curiously.
He smiles. "I would be a lawyer, I think. It's too late for me now, though. And the money's good, so why stop?'' He questions himself.
I shrug, "Maybe because it could be dangerous.''
He glances at me and his eyes get even more tired. "Yeah, it is... But I have a good thing going. I'm not worried.''
I take a seat beside him on the couch, but I leave a large distance between us. Hawth takes a sip of coffee, still trying to warm up.
"I am.'' I say.
He looks at me again. "Of what?'' He asks.
"Everything. Ash. My friend... she's the girl you met that's with Bram. I don't know. It's silly." I mumble, quietly.
