BAZ
"Tyrannus,"
Something in me snapped back into place. I opened my eyes and saw the face of professor Tawny just inches from mine.
"You did well. Are you sure that was your first time Seeking?"
I pushed her to the side and put my face in my hands. I silently begged myself not to puke.
"What. The. Hell. Was. That?!" I shouted when I finally got a grip of my own mind.
"That was your first Mind Search or a Seeking as I call it." She pulled the tiny vile from her pocket and held it up.
"When you drink this it scours your mind for something you desperately need to know and takes you there. So you can look at the situation more closely."
Takes you there? I took in my surroundings and realized I was back in Simons bedroom. The familiar warm glow of the bedside lamp was all around me and I could smell Simon's shampoo coming from the bathroom.
I looked to the bed and saw the shape of someone sleeping under the covers. I took a step closer and saw a lock of black hair peaking from under the blanket. It was me.
I stared dumbfounded at professor Tawny who smirked. She was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest. She looked proud of what she's done.
"Is that really me?" I asked.
"Yep. Just a few minutes before all this started."
"Wow, Professor, I didn't know you were the bloody ghost of Christmas past."
The smirk evolved into a toothy smile and her hair turned to a soft shade of pink. It matched the growing blush on her cheeks.
The bathroom door opened behind me and a freshly showered Simon stepped into the room. His golden hair hung in wet curls all over his head and his skin shone in the dim light. He looked at the sleeping me in the bed with a smile plastered on his face. Then Simon got in the bed and faced my past self. He played with my hands and laced his fingers with mine. I could almost feel his touch tickle against my skin as I watched him.
It wasn't long before Simon's eyes finally closed and he was asleep. Our hands were still linked together. I watched my past self carefully and waited for something to happen. Hardly any time has passed before I shot up in the bed. I was clutching my chest fighting for breath.
I remember not wanting to wake Simon right away. He just looked so peaceful that I didn't want to disturb him. But clearly my options were very limited at the time. I could see my whole body start to tremble as the suffocation turned into shooting pain all throughout my body. At that point I couldn't take it anymore and I woke Simon.
I didn't see his reaction when he first realized what was happening because my head was buried in my hands, eyes squeezed shut. But now watching it all unfold in front of me I could clearly see the panic and pure fear in his eyes.
I fought the urge to turn away and not have to look at Simon anymore but I knew I couldn't. The screaming and panic went on and Bunce finally ran into the room. She started throwing every healing spell she knew at me but nothing worked. I could see the tears glinting in Simon's eyes.
I couldn't do it anymore. My eyes broke away from Simon and looked to the wall on the opposite side of the room. I would rather go through the pain all over again than watch Simon frantically trying to do something to help. He had no magic and I understood how useless he felt.
"We can skip this part," said professor Tawny putting a hand on my shoulder. She held her other hand up in the air and everything in the room went still. She then moved her hand to the left and everything seemed to be fast forwarding like an old cassette tape. All the events that happened within the next few minutes happened before me in only seconds.
After a few seconds of fast forwarding professor Tawny put her hand down and the world around my carried on like normal. I was unconscious at this point. Simon held me close and buried his face in my shoulder. After s few seconds of silence Bunce finally spoke up.
"Simon," she said, "what happened?"
"I-I don't know!" He responded his voice sounded like he was struggling for breath. My heart sunk at the sight of him. He was trembling and hugging me as tight as he could. His eyes were red and swollen with tears but he held them back. Bunce instructed Simon to breath as she began rooting around the room. I took a step closer to Simon I could see the tears brimming his eyes.
Don't cry for me, Snow. I thought. I was too afraid to say it out loud in case for some reason he might hear me. The more I looked at him the more I wanted to fall to my knees and cry.
You've made me soft, Snow. Being in love with you has made my mind as soft as a pillow. How many Vampires out there will cry because others are in pain? Pathetic.
"Can we go, please?" I whispered to the professor. I could hear Simon and Bunce talking again but I ignored what they were saying.
"We haven't learned anything yet. Just a while longer." She responded.
"I can't be here anymore!" I shouted. I flung my arm to the side in frustration sending the bedside lamp flying. It smashed against the wall and the whole room went dark.
"Good going!" Shouted Professor Tawny.
"I didn't know!" I yelled back. The room was pitch black but I could still see. Bunce was on all fours groping the floor for her dropped wand.
I looked back to Simon and something caught my eye. In an instant the marks appeared on my arm. As if someone sliced their way through my skin with an invisible knife. Fresh blood slid it's way down my arm and dripped off my fingertips.
The lights came back on and I stared in disbelief at the bloody mess left on my skin. Simon noticed and cleaned the wounds with the first aid kit and carefully wrapped my arm in a thick layer of bandages.
Professor Tawny fast forwarded to the next morning after I woke up right before the fire swallowed me and took me to the strange torture chamber.
I watched myself get eaten by the fire and to my surprise it was real. It wasn't just a figment of my imagination like I had hoped. Once I was completely engulfed by the flames I disappeared and the fire spread across the room.
I focused on where I had once been standing. All the fire emanated from that very spot and stretched to all corners of the room.
I heard the door open behind me and Simon scream my name. A blood chilling scream of pure pain that I didn't know he was even capable of. Even after hearing it I didn't look away from the fire.
The fire slowly began fading away to reveal a figure. I saw long dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was small but that didn't hide the fierce look in her eyes.
Despite the smell of smoke all around me I could smell the blood on her breath. She was a vampire. But above all else she had a Phoenix scar on her arm.
