They sat there quietly for the first minute and a half before Chanyeol turned to face her.
"I said before that I won't judge you," he began, "if there's something bothering you, no matter what it is, can't we talk about it?"
Namjoo slightly turned her eyes and turned away. It couldn't work like this. How could she tell him about Luhan or that she'd gone back to the past and seen their family? As if any of that would make sense to him. She couldn't tell him that she felt like part of her was with Luhan, how would that ever sound right to someone like Chanyeol?
"Listen, this is just my problem," Namjoo turned to him, but when her eyes landed on him she saw little Hyunseung's face flash before her eyes.
She couldn't take this. This was just impossible. In the end, Namjoo turned away from him again. She was having really big problems this time. How could she not differentiate her own feelings from Joseon Dynasty's Namjoo's? It didn't make sense. They were two different beings in two different times, but why did it feel like these feelings belonged to both of them?
"Namjoo," Chanyeol reached for her arm, but Namjoo flinched away.
When she looked at him she saw the disappointment he was trying to hold back and she felt her heart melt in pain. She was bad, she was really bad. Then she thought of the melting gaze Joseon Dynasty's Chanyeol had given her and the way he'd begged her not to leave him.
Namjoo never really knew if she believed that love could travel over time, but wasn't the person in front of her existing evidence of it? She felt all the more frustrated. How could she sort everything about herself out when Chanyeol was clinging on so hard? And there was the puzzle about Luhan she wanted to solve.
"Why do you love me so much?" Namjoo asked. "All I've ever given you is pain and more pain. Aren't you tired of that?"
"No, I wouldn't hurt if you didn't care."
Namjoo felt a helpless frown cross her face. She felt so apologetic for being so greedy.
"I'll come back to you, Chanyeol, but I can't right now. Part of me is missing...and I...I need to find myself first or else I'll never be happy," Namjoo let their eyes lock. "Please."
He stared at her for a long time before he cupped the side of her head in his hand. "Yea, I understand. Can I still come see you?"
She smiled and nodded. Chanyeol gave her a quick peck before they hugged each other tightly. As she snuggled her head into his shoulder she could feel him digging his fingers into her hair. This...she would have the best of this after she resolved all that she wanted to.
"He gone?" Chorong asked after she closed the door.
"Yea."
"How'd it go?"
Namjoo turned around to face her sister and shrugged. "It was ok."
Chorong nodded before asking, "I'm going to head out in a bit. Want to come with?"
"Where are you going? I thought you had no plans today."
"Well...things come up here and there." Chorong excused. "Just go with me."
Namjoo frowned at her and found herself sitting in the passenger's seat just a while later.
"Does this have to do with the man who called earlier?" Namjoo suspected.
"Why would you think that?" Chorong asked.
"It does, doesn't it?" Namjoo pressed on. "Tsh...you suck at hiding things, really."
