Chapter 9
After two months.
June is creeping in and I didn't enjoy my summer vacation. Seriously because of my busy schedule. All are choir practices, I think. I can't even visit my dad because our practice is held regularly. Daily. So, I told my dad that I'm so sorry, although it is really not my fault. This is Mrs. Campbell's fault! Due to our continuous practices, I can't even recognize my own voice. It became low and strong, quite accurate for an alto. I miss my old voice, though.
I am sitting at the sofa, still reading the third book of The Lux Series, Opal. The last book would be released this coming August if I could recall. I'm just excited. I only got two pages left before reaching the acknowledgements, and I'm crying. I was like No! Please! No! And then, when I saw this four words which Daemon spoke, "I love you, Katy," my tears flowed endlessly.
"Why?! Why is this happening?!" I shouted. "Daemon! Damn it!"
I threw my book several feet away, reaching the foot of the stairs. "I don't want to continue reading! I'm disappointed with the story!"
"You're crazy," I heard from my back.
I turned my head around, seeing Keith standing behind the sofa. "Wha-what?" My eyes widened. "HOW DID YOU GET IN?!"
"Your door is open. So I went inside to check if you're still here or you already left, leaving your door wide open," he said. "You're not goin' to attend the practice?" he asked.
"I am," I replied. "By the way, why are you here?"
"Well. I was just passing by when I saw your door's open."
"Oh, really?"
"Yes."
"I don't believe you," I said, pouting.
"You should," he smirked.
I went to my room and changed into a white shirt partnered with blue tight jeans. I wore my favorite white Converse, splashed with blood-like red paint. I faced the mirror, fixing my hair into a simple ponytail.
I returned to the living room, grabbing my book. "Just let me finish this," I told Keith.
"I thought you don't want to continue reading because it disappointed you," he reminded me.
"I can't remember I said that," I lied, giving him an innocent look which you would never thought a faux one.
"Okay," he muttered displeasingly.
I opened the book, turning it to the last page, and I continued. "I love you," were the last words Katy had said before she was grabbed by the Arums. There was no Daemon.
I closed the book and quickly placed it in the bookshelves. I didn't cry, instead, I half-smiled.
"How did it end?" Keith asked.
"They've been separated," I replied, still half-smiling.
"Oh," he looked at me. "Don't smile at me like that. You're scary."
I frowned. I rolled my eyes before heading out of the house. I waited for him to come out for a few seconds, and I locked the door.
"Are you sure it's locked?" he asked.
"Isn't it obvious that it's locked?" I stated, raising my eyebrow.
"No. It's not obvious," he shot back with a grin.
Again, I rolled my eyes. "Ain't you going to open this door for me?" I pointed the car's door.
He made his way to open the door for me and I sat there comfortably. He walked around the car, maybe checking the tires, before he got in. He started the engine and we hit the road.
