Chapter 1

Today has been the worst. For the third time in my whole existence I'm moving back to Ohio.

Out of all places I have to go back to Ohio, why can't I just stay in California. My whole life is basically here. Sure I was born in Ohio and my family is there along with my best friend Hailey, but I just don't wanna go back. California is the first place where I actually can be my self and not get pushed into things.

"Bree honey can you go into the party store right next door to get some munchies while I put gas into the car." My mom asks me.

"Sure, what do you want?" I ask unbuckling my seat belt and opening the car door.

"I'll take an Arizona Iced Tea, and BBQ chips. The Lays kind." My dad yells at me from the gas station door.

"I'll just take a Starbucks Mocha and a bag of almonds. Here take some money." My mom hands me some money and I step out of the car. I slip on my hoodie and close the door.

I hear a knock on the drivers side window. I look back at my mom and open up the door. "What?" I hiss.

"Don't get anything liquor related hear me, you know they don't look at your id." She tells me.

"Ya ya I know." I slam the car door closed and start walking over to the party store. As I walk inside my phone starts buzzing. Hailey's calling me.

I pick up the phone and walk towards the drinks. "Hey Hailey!" I answer.

"Hey babe, so I hear your coming back to Ohio!" She squeals into the phone.

"Oh my god, who the hell told you it was supposed to be a surprise!" I yell.

"I overheard my mom talking with your mom about it, yesterday." She answers.

"Ugh, you little snooper, I hate you it was gunna be a surprise. Hey, does anyone else know?" I ask. I walk past the beer and head over to the pop.

"Um no, well yes, but no." She mumbles.

"Hailey!" I scream.

"Hey could you uh not scream in my facility please!" An old man calls from the counter. "I'll kick you out if you scream again." He points at me.

"Sorry." I wave my hand and apologize.

"Oooh you got in trouble." Hailey laughs.

"SHUT UP!" I yell.

I quickly cover up my mouth and turn my head very slowly to the old man. When I look at him he already starts walking towards me.

"What did I tell you." He sternly grabs my arm and starts half shoving half walking me out the door making me drops all the stuff I was gunna buy. "No don't come back!" He shits the door and walks away.

"Uh Hailey I'm going to have to call you later." I quickly hang up the phone and run back to the car.

My parents already sitting inside the vehicle waiting for me.

I open up the door and hop inside, buckling my seat belt. "We're just gunna stop at a different party store, okay? Okay. Now let's go." I quickly tell them

"Where is m-" I cut off my dads sentence with a wave of my hand.

"Let's not talk about this okay." I plug my headphones into my phone and press play on my music.

I look down at my wrists and counts how many lines I see. 1...2...3...4...5. When will I end? I can't take it anymore. My parents aren't even together, why is the family moving back home?

I get a text from a group chat with Hailey and Ashlynn.

Oh ya Ashlynn is my other best friend I met her in 6th grade. When I was 9 I moved to California but when I turned 10 I went back home. But during the end of 8th grade beginning of 9th grade I moved back to Cali. We haven't really talked much until apparently Hailey told her.

Ashlynn: I'm sorry bb Hailey told me. So technically it's not even my own fault Ik about it.

Hailey: Heyyyyyy don't just blame me! B wasn't even supposed to know that you know! Why did you even add her to a group chat and just say that out of no where!

Me: guys give it up I'm not really mad about I just wanted it to be a suprise

Hailey: oh ya so what happend at that party story that you suddenly had to hung up on me out of nowhere

Ashlynn: omg what

Me: so I may have screamed way too loud way too many times and this old man yelled at me and kicked me out of the store

Ashlynn: lol nice job

Me: thx

Hailey: Ohhh cuz I ended up talking to my self thinking you were still there for like 15 minutes

Me: only you would do that

Me:lol

Ashlynn: alright well I've got to go eat lunch talk later

Hailey: same here cuz we're going together haha

Me: it's only like 9 rn guys don't leave!

Hailey: dude remember time difference it's noon in Ohio

Ashlynn: lol bye

Me: bye

Hailey: talk later!

I exit of my text messages and open up Instagram. I got only a few likes on my picture of the beach since I last checked this morning before leaving the house.

Damn I already miss that house and it's only been about an hour since we left. Only like 35 more to go. Let's just say that this is gunna be an extra fun trip driving to Ohio, all because my parents didn't wanna pay the extra money to ship their brand new Silverado across the state.

We should've flown there.
