Seventeen

roadtrip

11:05am Thursday

"So what is the plan?" I ask hesitantly. Ty looks around the table shrugging his shoulders.

"Well, we can go to San Fran again," Jodi murmured, everyone huffed a no.

"ooooo how about San Diego?!" Jodi added. Everyone yelled no and she was then quiet.

Drew spoke up out of the blue, "What about LA?" We looked at each other smiling with nods.

It was settled then, LA here we come. I drove home after school, thinking about the trip. I still need to pack and text Jodi asking her what she is bringing so i don't bring a bunch of unnecessary crap. I pull up the drive way and head upstairs to pack my bag and shoot a text to Jodi.

Nikki: Hey d00d, what are you bringing for the trip?

Jodi: I'm just bring a weeks worth of clothes, bathroom stuff, makeup ofc, and just whatever else haha

Nikki: ahah alright, well i'll see you tomorrow, love you!

I shut off my phone and throw a bunch of clothes in a bag and other along with whatever else. I get ready for bed and find myself in bed thinking about him again. I don't know why i can't just let him go. I mean after all, he hurt me, that should be enough to make me want to get over him. But that's the thing, he could me over and over again, i would still look at him like he was the moon in the sky. And i was just a one in the millions of stars in the sky. In the middle of my lonely thought, my phone buzzes.

*Message from Drew*

My breath caught in my throat, but i opened it.

Drew: hey, whats up?

Nikki: Hey, nothing much wbuu?

Drew: same.

Nikki: yeahhh

Drew: well that died quickly didn't it? hahaha

Nikki: hahaha yeah it kinda did

Drew: sooo

Nikki: i want food rn,

Drew: why is it that you are always wanting food??

Nikki: bc I'm me lolol

Drew: well I'm glad your appetite is still there, but i probably should go to bed. got a big trip tomorrow haha

Nikki: yeah your right, well night Drew

Drew: goodnight, Nikki.

I set my phone on my nightstand and just stare up at the ceiling feeling my heart race and my adrenaline pumping. Why is it that he has this affect on me? After all this time he still makes me feel like the first. I seriously need to get over him, but i know that's impossible. Deep down i know i loved him, and it hurt to know he will never return those feelings. Fuck it I'm gonna just forget about him and focus on me for once. Yeah... that's what I'm gonna do.

9:17am Friday

"God damnit where is Tyler?!" Drew was sounding so impatient and frustrated.

"I told him to be here by 9:00am on the dot and he is 17 minutes late," Jodi complained rolling her eyes.
Next thing we know an old rusty red pick up truck swerves in the school parking lot, parking next to Drew's car. Tyler hops out,

"Where the hell have you been?" I raise my voice with annoyance.

His face was red with anger, "My freaking mom is doing her dumb shit again, i found some fucking coke in her drawer and some low life in her bed again. Then i confronted her about it and she called me a a screw up and that i was a mistake. I can't take this anymore!!" He was almost fuming with rage.

But Jodi walked over to him and rubbed his arm, "Ty, I'm so sorry. Maybe this trip was a good idea then, you can take your mind off things." She assured him, and calmed him down. We each told him to not worry too much, just focus on having fun.

"So, who's cars are we taking?" I ask, looking around at their faces.

"Ty's car is out for sure, no trunk," Jodi stated laughing.

"What's so funny??" Ty exclaims.

"The fact that your parents are rich as hell and you chose an old pick up for-sale on the side of a freeway," she busted up laughing. He pouted playfully,

"Hey, i love that truck!" He smiled at her, and the way they looked at each other made me feel lonely.

So i broke up the moment with a "Okay lovebirds lets hit the road before you guys start making out again," they glared with embarrassment but i just chuckled.

We decided to take Drew's and Jodi's cars, and of course Ty wants to ride with Jodi. So that leaves me to ride with Drew......great. I slide into the passenger seat while Drew puts my stuff in the back. I sat there patiently waiting feeling my heart slightly pick up it's pace. After he jumped in, we pulled out of the parking lot. He glanced over at me giving me a smile and then chuckling.

"Who knew we would be stuck together for the trip?" He ran a hand through his hair.

"Yeahh, do you mind if we stop at a gas station for food?" I say almost pleadingly with puppy dog eyes. He grinned,

"No i don't mind, i actually was heading for one anyways knowing your appetite conditions." He laughed.

I gave him the stink eye but grinned at his facial expression. We pulled into the nearest gas station and i ran inside with my credit card. I went inside with the mindset of what i would get, but ended up getting about 10x more. Drew was behind me in line, and he just shook his head.

"Whaaaaaat? It's a 6 hour car ride d00d, i need to be prepared!!" I exclaimed.

"I would of stopped along the way periodically, Nikki." He started laughing and nudged my shoulder.

"Well, i guess my challenge is to finish all this before the next stop then," I smirk, giving him a devilish grin. He rolled his eyes at me and looked away laughing.
If someone asked me what my favorite song was, you'd think I would say something from the radios top 100; but the first thing that would come to mind... is his laugh.
