"This isn't awkward at all..."

I was currently talking to Nate.

Nate garner: ex boyfriend, a somewhat friend, and a great guy.

Reason we Broke up: He thought there was something going on with Ethan and I.

The reason things are awkward between us: he saw that there was nothing between ethan and I and wanted to get back together but I said no because I was not in the mood. When I say not in the mood, I mean I wasn't in the mood to have a boyfriend knowing he's going to keep being jealous.

stupid, I know.

"Come in, just uh. . . Make yourself at home." He stepped to the side and let me in. The apartment was a bit dirty but that's Nate for you.

I stepped inside and set my suitcases in front of me. He saw my observations towards all of the clothes on the floor and he quickly picked them up and tossed them into a nearby closet.

"You know what? this is weird, I'm just gonna go." I turned around. "No, it's fine. Really. We don't have to make things awkward." He held my wrists. I looked down at his hands and he quickly pulled away.

"You sure?" I gave him a chuckle.

"Here, why don't we play some video games, like how we used to when we were... You know. Dating." His cute smile appeared on his face.

"I'm actually leaving soon. Im going on a date." I bit my inner cheek making his smile fade.

"Oh, ok. Um, are you staying the night at his place or. . .?"

"No, I'll be back. But if I'm not back soon, call the cops." I joked hoping I'd lighten up the mood. "Ah, ok. But yeah, I'll be sure to call them, but only if you're not bAck." He chuckled then leaned against the counter.

"Nate, can I just apologize for my reason on not wanting to get back together, because I really am sorry." I looked down.

"It's fine. It was my fault to begin with. I should have believed you when you said nothing was going on between you and Ethan." He looked me in the eyes not breaking contact once.

"I'm glad we're friends." I smiled as I rubbed my right arm with my left hand.

"Me too. Who knows, maybe one day we can try to—"

My phone started to ring and cut nate off. "Sorry. It's Dylan." I swiped right and answered the call.

*The short conversation between Dylan and I*

"Hey Dylan."
"Hey Kelsey."

"..."
"..."

"I called to say That I'm sorry, but we're gonna have to reschedule our...date."

"Oh, it's cool. We can do it next weekend, if you want."

"Yeah, sounds cool. I'll text you later then?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, well I'll talk to you later."

"Yeah, you will."

*The end of our conversation*

I looked at my phone for a while to fully comprehend what just happened but I felt too dumb so I slid my phone in my back pocket.

"Bad news?" Nate asked. I looked up and looked at him for a second. "Yeah. Date got cancelled." I looked away in embarrassment.

I honestly don't even know why I was embarrassed, like it's ok, it happens.

"Here, I'll be your replacement date." Nate grabbed his lanyard and put my hand in his. He pulled me out of the apartment and locked the door.

We ran to the elevator and he pushed the button and we patiently waited.

The door finally opened and we hopped right in. It was an awkward silence, mostly because our hands were still in touch with each other.

I looked up at him and he was smiling. He faced me and showed me his pearly white teeth with that beautiful smile of his.

If this weren't really awkward, I probably would've kissed him right then and there, but it was actually way too awkward.

The elevator doors opened and the heavy air was once again lifted. We walked out with parted hands with awkward smiles.

Boy is this going to be fun.

NOT!
