"Meg. Do you think that we could go out and have fun tonight?"

Meghan looked up from her book, her eyebrow raised and her eyes narrowed.

"You want to go out? Scott, you aren't Scott. Who are you and what have you done with him?" I rolled my eyes fondly at her, and then I shrugged.

"The beast woke up inside of me and decided to state his business."

Meghan looked excited, but then her posture slumped and she frowned. "This isn't an excuse to go out and drink, is it?"

I shook my head, standing up to walk over to her. "No...well...that's not the only reason." She groaned.

"If you get drunk again, that means that I have to be responsible for you. And that's not any fun. If we go out, we're not drinking alcohol." I huffed.

"Well, Meg? I'm sorry that I'm just never in the mood to do stuff anymore. I thought that this could be a fun night! And I could slip you a drink and-"

"But unlike you, I care about staying in my home."

I was taken aback by the harsh statement. Of course I cared, but college was supposed to be a place where kids have fun while taking on a state of independence. She was letting her school rules get in the way of her fun rules.

"I do care."

"Really? Then why is it that you always ask me for beer? Why is it that you always have to have one when the time is inconvenient? Why do you not understand that I don't want to drink, and that you aren't allowed to be seen with it here? If you want to treat it like a damn escape instead of going to school and hanging out with friends, go the hell ahead."

Meghan sat down her pencil, grabbed her bag, and slammed the front door shut behind her.

My head was whirling. My hands clenched in and out of fists.

"That's what I get for being a good friend? That's what I get for taking her in when nobody else cared? Ugh, screw it!" I stomped over to her desk, and I pushed every single book and paper to the floor in a rage.

And then, I sunk to my knees and did the only thing I could remember how to do, other that drinking. I wept silently, until the knock at the door pulled me away.
